Lai'lira sat on the promenade watching the people go by. There was an excitement in the air. Hades had already said that he was going to be going out for a medical mission. He didn't explain much.
Today, being her day off, Lai'lira decided to just take a day to adjust and relax. She'd been able to view the memory chip that everyone was hiding from her. When she thought of all that had happened a great sadness filled her.
Splendora had been really nice and had talked her through it. She too knew the sting of family betrayal but Lai had needed to be alone.
She watched the marketing screen flash and an advert offering 50% mud baths flashed on the screen. Lai smiled as she thought of her mud bath outing with T'Lar just a while back.
Lai'lira walked over to the door of T'Lar's quarters and smiled. She rang the chime waiting to be let in. Her excitement was bubbling from her. She couldn't wait to talk to her new friend.
Deela instead of calling out to enter, she answered her door. When it opened, she was pleasantly surprised to see Lai'lira, "Well hi there." Earl pushed through to the door to see who it was. He was just as happy to see her as Deela was. "Come on in."
Lai'lira followed Deela inside and knelt down to ruffle Earl's fir and give him a hug and kiss. "Missed you buddy!!!" She laughed when he licked her face. "I guess he missed me too!" She stood up and hugged her friend. "How are you!!" Her enthusiasm was evident. "I have a surprise for you!"
Deela smiled, "You do? Wow, I cannot wait to see what you got me." She spoke the same enthusiasm.
Lai'lira grinned. "Well I started my job and sooo." She pulled out a small box from her pocket. She had bought a charm bracelet and on it she'd included a few charms. She gave it to Deela to open.
Deela took the box from her and opened it. She pulled out a piece of jewelry and smiled. She began to examine it.
"It's a charm bracelet. The heart one is for your kind heart, the little kids one is for your kids, the swan is for beauty, I even have a little tiger for Earl." She grinned.
"It is beautiful. Thank you. I will cherish it forever." Deela unclasped it and began to put it on, "Would you do the honour of helping me put it on?"
Lai'lira smiled. She helped put the bracelet on her friend.
"Thank you again. And thank you for including Earl. He is family as well."
"Of course he is!" She grinned and pulled out another box. "This is for Admiral Mikey!"
Deela took the box from her hand, "Nice, Admiral Mikey will love them as much as I love mine."
Lai'lira smiled as Deela opened the box. They were little starship cufflinks. "The store owner said every Admiral should have them!"
"They are unique, that is for sure." Deela handed the box back to her, "Are you thirsty? Hungry?"
She smiled. "Nope. I've got a spa day booked for us if you don't mind an annoying Nausiccan tagging along." She looked a bit frustrated.
Deela smiled, "No, I do not mind. When are we going?"
She smiled. "How about now?" She said as she stroked Earl's head.
The kids were in daycare so she had nothing really holding her back, "Now would be acceptable. Just give me a moment to get ready." Deela disappeared into the bedroom and changed clothes. Once finished, she walked out, "Ready. Lead the way." Deela walked towards the door then waited for Lai'lira to go ahead of her.
With one last pat for Earl they headed out. It didn't take long for them to arrive at the spa. They were met with a lovely Bolian woman who ushered them into the change room to change into robes and fuzzy slippers and then she led them to a large pool with dark mud.
Lai'lira smiled. "What's this?"
The Bolian woman smiled back. "It's Betazoid mud. Very good for the skin. Soak for twenty minutes and then we'll go to the healing waters to wash it off."
Lai'lira grinned. "As kinds our parents told us not to play in mud, as adults we get to play in it. Isn't this cool!"
"It is. My mom used to take me once in awhile when we lived on Betazed. You do not really play in the mud, you relax in it. It removes the toxins in your body as well as it cleans the pores. I think you will enjoy it quite well." Deela smiled at the girl's excitement.
Lai'lira dove into the much and ducked under it coming up sputtering. She wiped her eyes and then stared at Deela smiling. She was fully drenched in the mud so all you could see was her eyes and her white toothed grin.
Deela laughed, "Usually, we don't immerse ourselves in the mud but..." Deela shrugged, "...when in Rome, do as the Romans do." Deela did the same thing. When she came back up, they both found themselves laughing. This was one of those moments that she was glad to be part human and Betazoid.
Lai'lira was jolted from her pleasant memory by the sound of a familiar voice. She looked up at the man towering over her table. "Brax."
Braxton inclined his head towards the empty chair, "May I join you?"
She gave a little nod.
"Are you alright," he asked.
She gave a shrug of her delicate shoulders. "I'm...recovering. The information was hard to take."
Braxton's hands balled into fists. He wished he could have spared her the pain. "It will get better."
Lai gave a nod. "Day by day."
They chatted a while and Braxton finally stood. "I should go. I have to report on duty soon."
Lai gave a weak smile, not like her usual dazzling ones. "I should go to. I have an appointment myself. "
The two parted ways Braxton felt a ball of unease in his gut as he walked away from her.
