Episode 90 - The Great Relink
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 0700hrs
ON:
Bremer had arrived in Ops early, about 0700 hours and he was greeted with a PADD. On it was an acknowledgement from DS9 that they had relayed the message to the Dominion regarding the discovery of Kratz. Mike had hoped for a little more but at least the Dominion were aware now.
After a few moments of thought, he set the PADD on his desk and headed to Docking Bay Thirty Eight. He met his oldest children there and gave Becca and K’Wor hugs before they boarded the ship to take them to Earth to start their sophomore year at Starfleet Academy.
Mike watched out the observation window as the USS Vesta departed the station and headed for Earth. He let his mind wonder for a few moments but as another vessel entered Starbase 400’s Docking Bay his expression became much more serious.
As he made his way over the Docking Bay Thirty Nine, Mike tapped his commbadge, “Bremer to T’Lar, please meet me at Docking Bay Thirty Nine. Bremer to Lokran and Jackson, the USS Kuznetsov has arrived early. Have your teams report to their positions for the prisoner transfer.”
"Aye, sirr." said R'nard. "Assembling the team now."
Jackson monitored the message, and signaled the platoon covering the Confinement Area to stand to. Sergeant Hopper's Squad was assigned to do the actual transfer. His squad was all geared up and ready. Jackson would accompany them.
After arriving at the airlock for Docking Bay Thirty Nine, he watched the Intrepid class vessel dock as T’Lar arrived.
“Have you ever met Commander Cobb of the JAG Corps?” Mike asked her.
Deela thought for a moment, "Commander Cobb, no, I do not believe that I have. What about you? Have you had dealings with him before?"
Mike looked over at Deela, “I’ve never met him, but I know others that have. They say he’s smug and arrogant, the kind of guy that will ‘get you back’ if he feels wronged in some way.” Mike turned toward the airlock doors again, then added “He’s perfect for the JAG Corps”. He smirked.
Deela didn't associate those two qualities with JAG, "I am not so sure about that. I find that arrogant people are not only overbearing but they also tend to get cocky in some situations. But I will reserve my opinion until I meet him."
Mike smirked, his joke had been lost on his half-Vulcan XO.
Deela looked at Mike and sighed, "And...I missed the punchline."
A moment later, the airlock opened and the first to step through was Cobb, followed by no less than one Security Officer. Mike looked at Cobb, then the single guard, then Cobb again.
“Commander, welcome to Starbase 400. This is my Executive Officer, Admiral Deela T’Lar.” Mike said.
Cobb rolled his eyes, “I forgot how brass heavy this starbase was.” He finally gave a respectful nod to T’Lar.
Mike's description of him was spot on which she could tell by who was accompanying him or more like, lack of. Deela opinion of him wasn't good but she kept her demeanor and nodded back, "Commander."
“Where are the rest of your Security personnel?” Mike asked.
“The prisoner is secured, is he not?” Cobb asked, in a condescending tone.
“Of course, however this prisoner is unlike anyone you’ve dealt with before.” Mike rebutted.
“He’s a prisoner, he’s nothing special.” Cobb replied and turned to walk toward the turbolift.
Mike looked over at T’Lar and rolled his eyes before tapping his commbadge. “Bremer to Lokran and Jackson, we’re in route.”
"Underrstood." said R'nard. "I am rready."
Jackson looked at Hopper. "They are enroute." Hopper replied, "Yes Sir". Using a few hand gestures, the squad assumed their positions. As a precaution, the Marines fixed bayonets.
Deela softly voiced her concerns to Mike, "Are you sure this is a good idea? Commander Cobb does not realize how dangerous the prisoner really is and that makes him a liability. We might as well let him go free." Cobb just proved her opinion of arrogant people.
Mike replied softly, "I don't like it either, but we have orders." He paused a moment, "Before they depart, I'll demand to inspect the security preparations aboard their ship."
Deela shook her head as she started to walk away, "Smusma'es k'du."
Mike glanced at the time as they passed a display panel. "Deela, I'm supposed to be meeting with our new Chief Medical Officer in ten minutes, Doctor Grayson Hayes. Would you mind meeting him, giving him the run down on the Station, etcetera, etcetera?"
Deela smiled, "I would be happy to."
"Thank you. While you're at it, you might also want to meet with Lieutenant JG William Monsoon and 1st Lieutenant Deborah Casion. Both are also new. Lieutenant Casion came aboard today, and Lieutenant Monsoon came aboard a few days ago. Have Captain Pike and General Hurd there too. Lee is Monsoon's department head and with Jackson involved in the transfer Jewel can assist Casion with any Marine related questions." Mike replied with a thankful smile.
"Casion, Monsoon, Hayes, Pike and Hurd. Got it." Deela was relieved to not have to deal with Cobb. "And I will relay to them your apologies."
Mike smiled at T’Lar, “Thank you.”
As Deela turned down a side corridor, Mike led Cobb and his lone Security Officer to the turbolift. Once everyone was entered he tapped in the security code that would allow the lift to access the Brig levels.
Cobb didn’t say a word, he stood at the front of the lift, his hands behind his back. His Security Officer stood to his right and behind, but kept his eye on Mike. Once the door opened, Cobb stepped out, followed by Bremer, then the guard.
Cobb eyed the Marines stationed in the corridor, “Nervous?”
Bremer smirked, “Not at all, just following protocol.”
Entering the main brig area, Mike nodded to Jackson and Lokran as they walked toward Prisoner 001’s cell. Prisoner 002, a man named Dexter, a mass murder, simply watched the group walk by. Arriving at 001’s cell, the Mirror Universe Mike K’Wor Bremer stood up from his bunk and smirked, as if he knew what was happening.
“Federation Prisoner 045-Lamda-1065, known as Prisoner 001 aboard Starbase 400, Mike K’Wor Bremer from the Mirror Universe, you’re being transferred to my custody as of this Stardate. You will be taken to Earth for final questioning and then returned to your Universe.” Cobb announced, reading off his memorized orders. He then handed the PADD to Mike.
Mike glanced at the PADD. The orders had Fleet Admiral Nechayev’s signature and authorization code. Mike glanced back at the Security Officer standing at the control station. “Lieutenant, open the cell’s hand port.”
A moment later, a small hole about waist high opened the forcefield. Mike took the hand restraints from Lokan and stepped forward. “Give me your hands.”
His Mirror Universe duplicate slowly stuck his hands through the hole. As Mike put the restraint on his left wrist, his duplication grabbed Mike’s arm with his right hand. “I’ve waited over ten years to get my hands on you again.” His expression and voice were full of anger and hate.
Jackson, Hopper, and Lokran stepped forward but Mike calmly said “Stand down” as he glared into his mirror’s eyes. Flexing his wrist and using his free hand, Mike peeled away his duplicate’s hand while at the same time securing it with the restraint. Mike then pushed him back as the hold in the forcefield closed.
“Lieutenant, open the cell.” Bremer ordered. A second later, the cell opened.
“Commander.” Mike said, wanting Lokran to take custody of the prisoner.
R'nard stepped forward to take custody of the prisoner. He was ready for the prisoner to make any move.
“Admiral. He is my prisoner now.” Cobb rebutted, then motioned for his Security Officer to move forward. The Security Officer looked down on Lokran and tried to move past him.
R'nard shook his head. "Please do not interfere." he said.
“Cobb, while he’s on this Station, he’s still my responsibility, tell you man to stand down.” Mike replied.
After a moment, Cobb nodded again, and his Security Officer backed off.
“General, advise your men, we’re moving out to Docking Bay Thirty-Nine.” Mike said to Jackson.
Jackson nodded, and via combadge, notified the rest of the company the take up positions along the route. He also ordered the QRF to monitor comm traffic, and be ready to respond. Hopper and his marines took up their escort positions around the prisoner.
As the group fell in, two Marines led the way followed by Hopper, Jackson, the Mirror Bremer with Lokran, followed by Bremer, more Marines, then Cobb and his Security Officer.
R'nard kept the Mirror Bremer in close watch. And he wondered what his counterpart was like, but such curiosity was for another time.
The duplicate Bremer tried a few times to pull his arm away from Lokran a few times, but was surprised at the grip of the small Tralazar. As the group approached the turbolift, Bremer looked over at Lokran and Jackson. It was obvious everyone wouldn’t fit in the same lift at the same time, and Mike knew his men had a plan.
Jackson made eye contact with the Admiral, and knew exactly what he was thinking. The Marines turned, short of the turbolift, left into a service corridor, passing through a few heavy duty security doors until they arrived at a larger cargo turbolift, normally used to transfer large loads needed for maintenence. Jackson flashed a smile at Bremer.
Sergeant Hopper continued at his place in the formation, watching not only the prisoner, but the Security Officer who accompanied Cobb. The exchange in glares amused him, knowing the Security Officer had no idea what kind of experience these Marines had in combat.
R'nard noticed his prisoner's attempt to wrest his hand from his grip, and the prisoner's surprise. He now doubted that he did have a counterpart in the other universe, and was glad of that. He guessed what the other Lokran, if he had existed, would be like.
“What is this?” Cobb asked, his Security Officer stepped up with his hand on his sidearm.
Sergeant Hopper continued at his place in the formation, watching not only the prisoner, but the Security Officer who accompanied Cobb. The exchange in glares amused him, knowing the Security Officer had no idea what kind of experience these Marines had in combat.
Once everyone was in position, Bremer spoke to Cobb. “There’s no way we could all fit into the turbolift. This is the maintained and cargo transporter for the Brig levels. It’s also used for secure prisoner transfers when needed.” Mike glanced back at Jackson, then Lokran.
“Do you want to beam him directly to the Kuznetsov’s brig?” Mike asked Cobb.
Cobb was clearly not happy, he slapped his comm-badge, “Cobb to Kuznetsov, we’re going to beam the prisoner directly to the Brig, have Security Standing by.” He then motioned for his Security Officer to step onto the pad. “We’ll take it from here.”
“Commander, until your ship departs Starbase 400, he’s still my prisoner. Commander Lokran, General Jackson, and myself will beam over with you. Verify he’s secured in your brig, and make sure your security protocols are in order.” Bremer’s tone was one of authority, and Cobb knew he shouldn’t argue.
“Mister Lokran, General.” Mike then added to his Officers as he stepped onto the pad beside Cobb’s Security Officer.
Jackson could see that the transfer was going smoothly. Very smoothly. After stepping onto the transporter pad, he discretely had his hand on the butt of his phaser, ready to draw at short notice.
Hopper did not like this part at all, especially since his commander and other key officers were going to be all in one place.
R'nard was also ready for anything as he stepped onto the pad. His ears were up, his nose twitching, and he was ready for action.
Cobb was the last to step onto the transporter pad. He glared at Bremer for a moment.
“Energize.” Mike said to the transporter tech who was on duty.
A moment later, the group found themselves standing in the Kuznetsov’s Brig. One cell held a member of the ship’s crew who’d apparently broken some regulation. It looked like he’d been there all night and had slept in his uniform. The other cell was open, and two Security Officers were standing by at the Birg’s control board.
“Commander Cobb, we have guards outside and we have secured the deck, force fields are in place and only authorized personnel can pass.” A Lieutenant at the control board reported.
“Commander Lokran, check the cell, General Jackson verify security preparations in the corridor.” Mike ordered. He then grabbed his duplicate’s upper arm to keep him from moving. The Mirror universe Bremer tried to pull again, but again found he wasn’t able to.
Jax gave Mike a nod, and proceeded into toe corridor. Glancing at the Security Officers that were spaced evenly down the hall, he could tell these were not the run of the mill brig guards, and he has encountered many in his career. He also observed the multitude of cameras, and sensor points throughout the hall. He casually walked up to the control station, and found the indicators and displays sound. He turned to the Admiral, and gestured a thumbs up.
Mike then looked over at Lokran when he returned. His Security Chief nodded, then Mike turned to Cobb.
“Commander, the prisoner is yours.”
Mike then nodded to the Security Officer at the control station and nodded. The force field to the cell closest deactivated. Mike walked his duplicate into it, then stepped back as the force field was reactivated. He eyed his Mirror Universe duplicate for another moment, the turned.
Mike gave a nod to Lokran and Jackson to follow him before looking back at Cobb. “Commander.”
Cobb didn’t say anything, he just smugly smiled.
Several minutes later, Bremer, Jackson, and Lokran watched as Cobb’s ship depart the Station from one of the Observation windows that looked out over the Docking Bay.
A few moments passed before Mike finally spoke. “Good work gentlemen. I’ll let you both get back to your daily duties now.” He gave a thankful nod as he also walked away.
