Mission:
Episode 90 - The Great Relink
Location: Office of Captain Leon Pike
Timeline: MD01 - 1630hrs
The place was massive, something which Willam had never seen with his own eyes before, something that had only been replicated on many computer screens. It was quite a daunting undertaking he was about to embark on. Usually he would be found sitting behind a computer desk conversing with people he had never met before via the cyber underbelly. Now he was stood outside his superior officers door wearing a uniform which was tight to say the least. He took a couple of deep breaths of the replicated air and tapped the button to the left of the door.
Lee was sitting in his office going over the latest reports of what had happen with the recent fight with the Borg when the door chime rang. "Enter"
"Lieutenant Willam Monsoon Sir" He introduced himself.
He looked up from the pad:"Yes Lieutenant?"
"Reporting for Duty......." He said unconvincingly to the officer in front of him
Lee put the padd down then stood up to his full height of 6'6 and extended his hand:"Welcome aboard Lieutenant, I'm Captain Leon Pike"
The man was extremely tall and Willam could feel his neck moving up to keep eye level with the captain.
"Thank you sir" Willam replied.
He then pointed to the chair:"Have a seat" Lee stepped over to the replicator:"Care for something to drink Mr. Monsoon?"
"I'll have a chilled orange juice please." Willam replied to the Captain as his slid into the chair placed directly in front of the desk.
Having never had to 'report in for duty' as it were before Willam was at a bit of a loss as to what he should do next. This didn't come naturally to him, he was very used to being a lone ranger.
Lee nodded ordering the chilled orange juice and a Raktajino, taking the glass and mug he then hands the glass over to Willam then sits down
Willam felt as though the situations would be far more pressured than it was turning out to be. As the glass came over he felt instantly more relaxed.
"Thank you sir" Willam replied taking a sip of the cool orange juice.
He takes a sip of the coffee then looks at the other man:"So tell me about yourself?"
That was the question that everyone hates, talking about yourself. Willam felt like saying 'just read my file' but that would have come across wrong.
"Well Sir......I am from Earth, raised to a good family......Well good enough to get by." Willam paused for a moment to think about what the officer wanted him to say. "I guess you could say I have had a normal upbringing but a very strange start into the working world. I am very talented in cyber espionage and have a very successful track record in getting information that I need. I guess you could say I am the perfect person for this role, but then again nobody is perfect." Willam skirted around the issues of his negatives.
He took another sip of his juice which struck his jaw causing his face to contort.
"I will be honest with you sir. I have never been in a situation like this before.......Where I've had certain rules and procedures to follow....Like rank structure....It's all very bizarre to me." Willam spoke again this time being very truthful.
Lee took a long drink of coffee nodding as he listened:"It's ok Mr. Monsoon, we all run into those situations here and there in our career."
Willam looked at the Captain and thanked him for his understanding.
He then grabbed a pad out of his drawer and slid it over to Monsoon:"Here is the latest report of our recent dealings with a Borg attack, apparently there was a large group of Borg who didn't get dealt with by the Caliear. We had a few liberated Borg help us with them. The Borg was taken out but many Star Fleet officers where injured including General Jackson."
"Seems like you've had a pretty tough time up here......Sir." The words fell out of his mouth before he could stop them. It maybe wasn't the best thing to say considering all that had happened. "What happened to General Jackson? He he Borg now?
Lee nodded:"Yea it was a pretty tough time for a lot of us" Hearing the comment, he almost chuckled:"No General Jackson isn't Borg, the vehicle he was in was hit and before it could explode fully, Sgt. Maal dragged him out."
The words were like a slap of reality to the face, people being dragged out of vehicles whilst simultaneously nearly being killed by the Borg. Again it was always something that Willam knew went on in the world of Star Fleet but it was something he thought was always over egged by the news channels.
"Do you have any questions for me Mr. Monsoon?"
"What would you like me to do Sir?"
Lee pulled out another data padd then slid it across his desk:"Go ahead and introduce yourself to Admiral Bremer then go ahead and get yourself familiarized with the last mission that we just had with the Borg and also take yourself on a short tour of Star Base 400."
The thought of a tour around the station sounded like a long winded idea considering the size of the place but Willam was happy to be given the time to do so. The only thing that scared him slightly was the thought of meeting the highest ranking officer on the starbase.
"Yes sir! That sounds like a plan." He said sipping again from his orange juice. Whilst sipping he thought maybe he should try a more adult drink next time.
Lee nodded:"That's good to hear. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to stop by my office."
Willam nodded to the officer and finished his drink.
"Thank you sir. I look forward to working with you" He smiled as he left the room.
"Welcome Lieutenant, I look forward to working with you as well." Lee went back to his work as Monsoon left his office.
