Mission:
Episode 90 - The Great Relink
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1, 0900hrs
ON:
It was early morning aboard Starbase 400, and the Borg threat to the Beta
Quadrant and Federation neutralized, at least for now. The Borg were still
a threat, but with them back in the Delta Quadrant instead of the Federation’s backdoor, and everyone back on Starbase 400, life aboard the Station was a bit more relaxed.
Mike was walking the corridors of Deck Two. He had a meeting planned with
several of the new Intelligence Officers aboard Starbase 400 and wanted to
make sure they were all familiar with the Station’s CiC, Tactical Operations. Mike had his head buried in a PADD he was reading, a message from Chancellor Martok. Ever since the plot against him was found and the
main conspirators caught and mostly executed, several Fleet Commanders,
leaders of several Houses, and even a few members of the High Council had
spoken out against Martok publicly. Some because they felt the Empire was
becoming soft, citing the fact they didn’t go to war with the Krazzle
after the Krazzle attacked the C’hakilians. Others also mentioned the fact
the Empire was going along with the Federation in allowing the Cardassian
Union to further re-arm its military and even ally itself with the
Federation and Klingons. Others were angry Martok had chosen to kill Re’al
and Graval before telling the High Council about the plot. Some felt
Martok was hiding things, other thought they should have been advised
first. Even when other Fleet Commanders like Klag, House leaders, High
Council members, and even Worf spoke out to support the Chancellor there
were clearly sides being drawn and things for the Empire didn’t look so
good.
As Mike continued walked, he noticed Lieutenant Peake walking toward him.
“Good morning Lieutenant.” Mike said. Peake looked over at Bremer but
didn’t say anything, instead he just kept walking. Mike thought it kind of
odd Peake didn’t say anything, especially since he was one of the new
Intelligence Officers Mike was about to meet with. Shrugging it off, Mike
continued on and walked into Tactical Operations. As he entered, he saw
Lieutenant Commander Rann and Lieutenant Shrell waiting for him by one of
the conference tables. Then, up at the first of the room looking over
information on the main wall display stood Lieutenant Peake.
Mike had a puzzled look on his face as he walked up to the young
Human/Vulcan Intelligence Officer. “Mister Peake.”
“Good morning Sir.” Peake replied. He studied Bremer’s face for a moment,
“Is there a problem Sir?”
Mike shook his head, “No.” ‘Maybe it was someone else’ he thought. He
gathered the others over and just before he started showing them around
K’Wor entered. When he saw his father he became confused and walked over to him.
Mike saw the confusion on his son’s face, “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, yes sir, I uh…I just thought I passed you in the corridors outside
Weapons Locker Two but when I tried to catch up with you I couldn’t find
you, but the computer said you were here. I was coming to let you know the Vesta was delayed and wouldn’t be here until tomorrow night so Becca and I will be staying one more night on the Station before returning Academy.” K’Wor replied.
Mike became concerned, he hadn’t been on Level 102 or near any of the
weapons lockers this morning. He tapped his commbadge, “Bremer to the
Brig.”
“Brig, Warrant Officer Talan here Sir.” Came the reply.
“Mister Talan, do a visual check on Prisoner Zero-Zero-One please.” Bremer
replied.
A few moments passed before Talan replied, “Prisoner is accounted for sir,
he is in his cell giving me the ‘evil eye’. Is that the correct term?”
“It is.” Mike replied with a smirk, “Bremer out.”
“So it’s not your mirror universe duplicate. You don’t have a twin you
never told me about do you?” K’Wor replied with a smirk of his own.
“No.” Mike replied as he looked around the room. “Mister Rann, run an
internal scan of the station for all bio signs.”
Rann nodded, tapped in a few commands and a map of the station appeared with thousands of dots indicating people on the station.
“Filter out anyone with active commbadges.” Mike ordered. A moment later
the vast majority of the dots disappeared. Of those left, most where in
the Promenade area, a few aboard civilian ships, but one stuck out...it
was where no civilian should be without authorization.
“There, that one in Ops. Focus in on it.” Mike said as he pointed. Rann
tapped in a few more commands and the screen zoomed in on Ops. The person was standing in the middle of Ops, then moved into Bremer’s Office.
“Visual scan.” Mike said. The map minimized and moved to the lower left
corner of the screen as the visual scan appeared. On the screen what
appeared to be Fleet Admiral Bremer was looking around in the office. He
picked up a few things, looked at a book, then sat at the desk for a
moment before getting back up to look around some more.
“Lock down the CiC, remain here, and don’t let anyone in without the
password ‘Beta-Three’.” Mike said to the group of Intell Officers. With
someone walking around that looks like him, he didn’t want to say ‘until I
get back’, so a password would have to do.
He and K’Wor each grabbed a phaser from the small arms locker there and
left. A few minutes later they arrived in Ops. Everyone present turned to
look at them enter but before anyone could say another Bremer put his
finger to his lips to indicate quiet.
Bremer and K’Wor drew their phasers and walked calmly to Bremer’s Office.
When the door opened the ‘other Bremer’ turned around and gazed at the
original.
“Well, that was quick.” The impostor said. “It’s been a long time since
I’ve been discovered that fast.”
“Who are you?” Mike asked, without lowering his weapon.
“I’m Kratz, or at least that’s what they used to call me.” The impostor
replied.
“They?” K’Wor asked.
“The Krazzle scientist that found me, ‘Kratz’ means something similar to
‘weird slimy thing’ in your language.” Kratz replied.
“What are you?” Mike asked.
“I do not know, I’ve never encountered a being like myself before.” He
eyed K’Wor for a moment then turned into a goldish liquid form before
changing his appearance to look like K’Wor.
“He’s a Changling!” K’Wor replied.
“A what? You’ve seen someone like me before?” Kratz replied.
“Do you know who Odo is? Have you ever been a part of the Great Link?”
Bremer asked.
“Who...what?” Kratz then morphed into his more natural form. His
facial features looked very much like every other Founder. He was about
two meters tall and had an almost excited expression on his face. “So you
know of others like me?”
“We do.” Mike replied. He remembered Odo’s origin story, being one of one
hundred sent across the Galaxy, it was very possible this was another of them. “Kratz, I want you to listen to me very carefully.” Mike slowly lowered
his phaser. “While you’re here, no more impersonating people, or accessing
restricted areas.”
Kratz nodded, but he didn’t really understand why.
“Cadet K’Wor here will take you to some guest quarters.” Mike added.
“I’d very much like to see more of his station and its people.” Kratz
replied.
Mike nodded, “All right. Our Counselor, Lieutenant Delair will meet you in
your quarters and she can show you around the Promenade where you can do all the ‘people watching’ you’d like.
Kratz smiled, or tried to, he couldn’t quite get it right. “Thank you very
much.”
K’Wor glanced at his father and put his phaser away. “If you’ll follow me.”
Mike waited for Kratz to leave Ops, then tapped his commbadge, “Counselor Delair, contact Cadet K’Wor. He’s escorting a guest to their quarters, I’d like you to meet him and take him on a little tour of the Promenade. Take Lieutenant Takabe with you. Admiral T’Lar, General Jackson, Commander Lokran please report to Ops.” After closing the comm, Mike walked over to the Communications console and sent a message directly to the Dominion marked for Odo only and encrypted with a code they used to use on DS9 before the Dominion War. He knew it would take at least a day to arrive and then another to receive a reply.

OOC:Mike - There we go...start of a new Episode. Should be some fun, and a good time for character development.
