Firefight at the SB400 Coral Pt I of II

Posted on Thu Oct 8th, 2015 @ 8:44pm by Gunnery Sergeant Marcus Ermey

3,480 words; about a 17 minute read

Mission: Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: Multiple Locations
Timeline: Present

OFFICERS CALL 0900-1700 HRS
One thing that was different was the food, there were platters of baked goods, meat filled finger foods, and the deserts, pies, cakes, sweet rice with coconut sauces, and the coffee, that were a combination of different blends. In all of the years many of the officers had been with the Regiment, there never was a food spread such as this.

Mostly the food was donuts, and coffees; but what differentiated this was the real china cups and saucers, not the typical Marine Corp mugs; old chipped cups, and paper cups. Now eating hungrily as they all sat waiting to hear and see their new Regimental Commander. As they all began to sit and eat, with a lot of jokes being said, the officers were now feeling good.

Suddenly, SGTMAJ Ermey got up and said “Regiment, atten-shun!”. Everyone stopped talking and came to attention. “Regimental Commander, Captain Milagros Hondo Magbangan is in the room.

With their eyes all facing forwards, from the back came an attractive Filipino woman dressed in her Class “A” uniform. For a woman in her late 50’s she was still very beautiful. Now in her Class “A’s”, she made a fashion statement. Her uniform was highly pressed and boots were highly shined. With her 6-0 frame she wore her uniform perfectly. As she slowly walked up to the front of the room, she turned and everyone could now see the five rows of medals, as some of the officers commented on her combat ribbons.

Speaking for a few minutes on her military history, she also mentioned that she was the former Commander of the 47th SFMEU, and commander of SFMC Galahad Marine Corp base. Now with their attention, she began her briefing as she touched on many polices that were now out in force, and the typical new Regimental Commanders policy.

Pressing a button; a 3-dimension screen came down from the ceiling, and once it was activated; the organizational map showed the entire 327th and all of its personnel.

From Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Alpha, Bravo, Delta, and Echo Companies, to each individual fire team, squad, and platoon. Over each person assigned there was a green box; but with the push of another button, the green boxes suddenly changed into several colors.

Each colored box was significant. Red meant that the Marine was KIA, Yellow meant WIA, and Green meant very minor injuries or no injuries and were now back on duty. For the ones who suffered deep psychological shock they were outline in purple, and White was reserved for MIA (Missing in action).

Looking at the Chart everyone could now see how much of a beating 2nd battalion had taken during the campaign. With the entire Regiment consisted of 4 Infantry Line companies, and each company having 5 platoons consisting of forty four men and women, there were massive gaps in its structure. Some platoons had ceased to exist, or for the ones that were still operational they had over 700 casualties, or in the order of 20% of the Battalions capability to successfully conduct military operations. .

Now after watching the facts sink in, she okay “ladies and gentlemen, any Questions”. Without any good answers, from any of her officers, she said

“people; right now 2nd Battalion is not according to Marine regulations even a combat unit, it is considered defunct, and not able to even have the personnel to go out on a search and rescue mission. So if 2nd Battalion wants to spend the rest of its days being sent out to do shit details, being the butt end of the 327th, and the other two regiments here; “then we’re going to have to be creative on how we get new Marines”. Now does anyone have any more questions?

“NO MA’AM”, came from a chorus of her officers. Now she said, "does anyone here, have an idea on how we get other Marines? Standing there up in the front no one ventured an answer, then Hondo said “We’re going to shanghai folks from the Regiment, not just the 327th; but from the other two Regiments”.

“This means that right now I want all Battalion Commanders to direct their personnel section, and look for any section within their own Regiments for “Marines who are in over strength sections; Marines who have manage to find a nice quiet place to hang out till they ETS out of the Marines; Marines who all of you Commanders and Company Commanders here found a place to get rid of their problem children, and Marines whom the former Regimental Commander placed because he wanted to be a nice officer.

“First Battalion since you’re on alert status, this can wait till you come off status and assume maintenance status” But for 3rd Battalion you have a lot of work to do as soon as both you and 2nd Battalion are back in the Regimental Deck area.

”From here on out, we don’t have problem children!” “If they’re an 011B Infantryman, and they have a problem, then we train them until they don’t become a problem, and can successfully become a part of the Regiment!” “Right now I need gunslingers, not clerks in my line units”… Now are there any more questions? .

“OFFICERS DISMISSED!”….

DIVE BAR, ONE DECK BELOW THE PROMENADE:
With over two regiments of Marines celebrating together, and the hundreds of Starfleet and civilians all enjoying a Friday night of drinking, the Security Personnel and MP’s were ready for any action.

With SB400’s security personnel out in force along with the Divisions Military Police Officers, numerous patrols walked up and down the Promenade watching out for any trouble.

With a Senior Marine MP’s as the Field Supervisor doing Promenade patrol, he would check up on the 60 Marines making sure they were doing their jobs, sometimes he’d have to correct another senior Marine NCO, on the proper behavior of an NCO while on liberty. Other times he’d be found having a cup of coffee, stopping in to visit the various merchants, and just walking around the massive Promenade, where thousands of civilians, Starfleet personnel, and Marines were now joined together celebrating the return of the 2nd Battalion.

For Captain Frank Gifford, the Division Provost Marshal, he didn’t have to worry about what his Marines MP’s were doing, since his NCO’s were very well trained, and could be trusted to do what was necessary to stop any brawl.

It was around 0200 hrs when a large fight was called into the Security/MP Desk. Numerous call were now reporting that over 80 Marines of 2nd and 3rd Battalion were now actively fighting anyone in the bar, and with the bar in a shamble the owners were now calling for help. Two of the Security personnel had stepped in to prevent a fight from escalating had been injured and were now calling in additional forces to stop the now all encompassing bar fight.

Within minutes over 98 Security Personnel, and 60 Marine MPs arrived at the bar. As Gunnery Sergeant Butler was about to take his Marines into the bar, Chief Rowlings said “Stop”, this is our call; you Marines stand aside and let us handle this…. “We’re going to show you how Security stops any fight”.

Taking his Security Personnel into the Bar, Gunny Butler began to laugh at the last entering security officer going through the door. When one of the Corporals asked Gunny Butler why he was laughing Gunny Butler said “son, just wait and learn”, and you’ll find out why “Marine MP’s love bar fights”.

With the Marine MP’s just standing there waiting, no one heard the sounds of a stun grenade going off, nor the sounds of phasers set on stun, it was quiet then the bar erupted into open warfare, and it wasn’t long before the first of the Security personnel were being heaved through the plate glass window, and crashing to the deck, with drunken Marines now laughing as they hauled out the Security Officers by twos or threes.

The last one to come out the door was Chief Rowlings whose uniform was torn and bloody. Looking at the chief, Gunny Butler saw he had several injuries, facial, and a broken arm. Gunny Butler said “what happened in there?” Chief Rowling said, “they were waiting for us to enter, and as we stepped into the bar, we were just ambushed by over 80 drunken Marines who were all carrying weapons”

Standing up, as the Hospital Corpsmen assigned for medical coverage began treating the injured security officers, Gunny Butler said “Marines, it’s in and out in 15 minutes”, and “take no prisoners”. With his Marines now walking inside, the drunken Marines saw the entire platoon of Marines, some who stood at over 6 feet to over 7 feet in height. Big, heavy bruisers, and who did not smile, filling up he sides of the bar, they presented a united front, as the MP’s just silently looked at the drunk Marines.

Ordering the drunk Marines to leave three times, the fourth time someone heaved a heavy beer keg at the MP’s who easily ducked out of the way as it crashed to the promenade outside the bar. Tired of the drunk Marines, Gunny Butler said “Marines draw you batons”. In one quick move, the Marines all drew their expandable stun batons, out of their holsters, shook it once and suddenly the twelve inch baton grew to its 36 inches of milled steel and Magnesium alloy.

Each of the batons had a stunner tip, which was only charged to ¼ power, but with proper training, on how to strike at a persons non-vital areas, they could bring down even the biggest drunk Marine. If that didn’t work, the Marines used a deadlier form of Martial Arts developed for the Military Police which was designed to kill if need be; or break bones ending the fight almost immediately.

Senior Master Gunnery Sergeant Jerome Butler a veteran MP with over 35 years of having to deal with drunken brawling MP’s in several Marine units, had formulated a simple plan, take out the ringleaders by any means, and then deal with a bunch of drunks by teaching them a lesson. Once with the ringleaders now neutralized it would be a lot easier to handle the drunk Marines.

One of the ringleaders, now staggering around drinking from a bottle, made the fatal mistake of going up to one of the Marine Corporals, and spit a mouthful of beer in her face.

Suddenly the Marine MP cocked her leg, and with all her might drove her foot through his genital areas; suddenly doubled up with pain, the female MP drove her palm into his throat; causing him to gag, and fall to the ground gasping for breath. In a second, she swung behind him, and forcefully drove his face into the steel/wooden deck of the bar.

There was the sounds of bones and teeth breaking, and now with the Marine screaming out in pain and spitting out his tongue, teeth and a lot of blood, two of the Corpsmen dragged him out the door.

Looking at Corporal Petri, Gunny Butler asked “Petri did that turn you on?” , “YES, Gunny”, replied Marsha Petri. Smiling Gunny Bowler turned his attention to the drunken Marines who were still carrying their homemade weapons, while some had dropped theirs, Gunny Butler could now see gaps between the drunken Marines, and in a loud voice; he said “NOW”.

Seconds later several tables came flying over Gunny and when it landed on several of the drunken Marines, the MP’s were now driving in a wedge formation into the heart of the drunken Marines, exploded into action.

Now the drunken Marines were now facing a sudden blitz attack that left them shattered. Driving straight into the so-called strength of the drunken Marines, the MP's made them pay, with MP’s now beginning to beating them, some who tried to fight were neutralized as the Marines broke their arms or legs, some were thrown up against a bulkhead. With their screams now getting louder, the MP's continued their assault, and now using their stunner batons on the ones lying down or in the midst of fighting, the MP’s continued to pummel them into submission until the last drunken Marine was neutralized.

Suddenly Gunny Bowling blew his whistle, and the Marine MP’s stopped, and regrouped, then Gunny Bowler said ‘Transporter Room 50 drunk Marines to beam to Security brig 26-A, “ENERGIZE”.

Suddenly there was a bright light, and the next thing the Marines saw was that they were all in a temporary force field brig that consisted of three metal bulkheads, that was big enough to hold more than two Marine drop ships. With nothing but metal benches welded into the sides of the bulkhead, the Marines laid down and began to sleep on the bench seats or on the floor of the brig.

MAIN BRIG DRUNK TANK
It was now 0320 hrs, and the drunken Marines were now beginning to sober up. Soon they began to complain and began making threats that they would get hold of Company Commanders, Platoon Leaders, their First Sergeants and the JAG, telling them about the brutality.

As the 50 Marines began to complain about not being released immediately, one big partially drunk Marine decided to urinate on the metal bulkhead, and when he was seen by the duty Desk Sergeant who shared the call desk with one of the Security Petty Officers, he left his desk, went to the brig, and had the Marines open up the large opening.

Going inside while wearing his Class “A” uniform, he found the Marine who was now laughing, then he slammed the Marines head up against the metal bulkhead, ripped off his jacket and threw it at him, saying “MARINE, BEFORE YOU LEAVE MY BRIG; I BETTER HAVE A SPOTLESS DECK!" Leaving he just glared at the other Marine, who were now just trying to get out of the way as he left the brig enclosure and returned back to his desk.

Captain Gifford who was watching the entire incident ask Gunny Morita if there was a problem. "No Sir, just a Marine who decided to clean my brig deck, is all sir"....

CAPTAIN MAGBANGANS QUARTERS 0330 Hrs.
For the Brig officers they were about to call the individual units in 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry for an NCO to come and sign for the prisoners. But one of the Brig officers who had remembered the memo from Captain Magbangan, which was sent to the Chief of Security pulled it up on the Brigs PADD. Seeing that she was the only one who could sign for the Marines in the Regiment. The Security Duty Officer made the call, and was surprised to hear a pleasant voice on the other end.

“Yes this is Captain Magbangan, you have how many of my Marines in the Brig?, yes that will be fine, and don’t release them to anyone but me, I’ll be there in a few minutes”. Thank you Lieutenant”.

Now dressed she went down to the Mess hall, got two large boxes of donuts, and four large urns of coffee, and told the on-duty Mess Sergeant to take the items to the Security Section, and give them to the Desk Sergeant or Security CPO.

Leaving the mess hall, she found a running Turbolift, inserted her badge, depressed a series of numbered keys, that gave her access to the controls. Telling the Turbollift to take her to the Security department she was outside in less than 5 minutes. Taking out her ID card she depressed a series of numbers, and the Turbolift returned to normal computer control.

Arriving at the Security Department she met Gunnery Sergeant Morita who said “Welcome Ma’am, and how can we help you tonight?”, Pulling out her ID Card she said “I’m Captain Magbangan, and I believe you have some of my people inside who are ready to be signed out.

Suddenly the quietness of the office was broken ‘Sir, Captain Magbangan, Commander of the 327th is her to sign for her people”. “Gunny”, replied Captain Gifford, show the Captain in to our office. Before she left the front desk, the two civilian cooks arrived with four large boxes of freshly cooked donuts, and the four large urns of coffee. Then she said ‘Gunny, this is for you guys and the Marine MP’s. I see you had a busy night”…

Taking the boxes of donuts and the coffee from the two Civilians, Gunny Morita quickly set up the food in another unused office, and as everyone could now smell the fresh smell of donuts, even Captain Gifford, and the on-duty Chief of Security both came out from the back, where they met Hondo who was now telling stories to the desk crew.

After briefing Hondo on the large fight, Hondo said thank you I’ll take it from here. But first I’d like to see the security video on the Marines inside the drunk tank. It wasn’t long before Hondo, and Captain Gifford, and the Chief of Security were now viewing the drunk Marines, when they all heard some of the Marines calling Hondo a derogatory word, some had other harsh words for her, and some would liked to take her behind a building and rip off her clothes.

Seeing enough Hondo said, can you send me a copy of the video to my office tomorrow? Sure Hondo said Captain Gifford, who because of their rank, were able to call each other by their first name.

INSIDE BRIG HOLDING TANK 0500 hrs
Finally with all of the Mariens now processed for the Riot, it was time to release them, and this time the Marines all behaved seeing as that they would be released to their Unit NCO, or one of the younger 2nd Lieutenants. Once they returned back to their dorms they would have another party or go to bed. One thing they did not want to piss off was their unit first sergeant who could make their lives miserable.

Turning off the forcefield, Gunny Morita came into the Cell and said you’re being released to the unit. One of the Marines said, which one of the NCO’s is picking us up, and now laughing; Gunny Morita said “NO NCO IS SIGNING FOR YOU!” Now with all of the MP’s and Security Personnel standing by, and laughing at the now partially sober Marines, one so-called barracks lawyer said

“Gunny we are supposed to be released to a unit NCO, and it says that in the Regiments Regulations!”…”So we want you to call the unit and tell them we need to be released to a unit representative” “Well that’s fine, and good; and it is correct Marine; but your Regimental Commander has just signed for you all, and she told us to have you wait here for her.

Someone said “OH SHIT”. Stepping out from a corridor, Hondo made her appearance, and now everyone saw a female marine in her class "A" uniform, with her decorations, and everything about her said "Trouble". She did not say anything, she just looked menacing, and acted very cold.

Standing in front of the Marines she said 'Marines, fall in". Suddenly all 50 Marine were now jockeying for position in the large platoon formation. Next she said; Platoon “At close arms intervals dress righttt...Dress!”… Suddenly the Marines were now moving together, and dressing and covering each other, the entire platoon of Marines were now ready.

Now chewing out the Marines standing before her, 1st Lt. Friday the regiments Executive Officer came out from anotehr corridor, add stood two paces behind her at attention. Doing an about face, Hondo said; “Lt. Friday, how would you like to play DI once more? Lt. Friday replied; “Ma’am I would love that”.

Well Lt. Friday "they're yours, I want you to run them ragged as much as you want, until they've sobbered up, then I want you to double time them up as many decks as you think you need, then you and this sorry ass excuse for Marines of the 327th will return back to the Regiments deck, where their Command Group will sign for them..."Lt. Friday, any questions on what I just ordered?".... "NO, MA"AM!". Lt. Friday carry on.

Doing another 180 degree turn, Hondo along with Captain Griffin his MP's, and the other Security Personnel walked back to the security deck. As she left the massive hanger, she could hear Lt. Friday now screaming at the Marines, and they were now screaming back in unison to some order he had given them, then she heard 'MARINES, DOUBLE TIME...MARCH!"...
