Mission: Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: BQ Command Suite; U.S.S. Gladiator Bridge
Timeline: MD3 0110 Hours

Sevlek had returned to his quarters two hours ago and began meditating almost immediately. He was about to retire for 4 hours of sleep when his computer terminal beeped to inform him that he had a Priority Alpha-1 communication incoming.

He walked from his bed into the office next to the bedroom and sat at the desk. Sevlek activated the terminal and waited. The transmission indicated it was from Captain Zandusky, aboard the Gladiator. Which was an unknown distance from Starbase 400 right now.

After a moment, the communication was displayed. Zandusky looked exhausted. He obviously hadn't slept in several days. Daniel noticed the Admiral was out of uniform, "Sorry, sir. Didn't mean to wake you, just wanted to give you an update."

Sevlek raised his left eyebrow, "I was not asleep yet. I was preparing to do so." He noticed the man relax, only slightly, "Based on your predilection for making situations seem less pressing than they actually are, I surmise something of an urgent nature has arisen." It wasn't a question. Daniel liked to keep things somewhat light to keep people from stressing so much it interfered with their duties. It was one of the qualities that made him a good leader.

Daniel's lips curved into a slight frown, "You surmise correctly." He leaned back in his chair and began speaking in a level voice, "We're currently 2,108 light years from Starbase 400. The Sphere is just sitting in orbit of a P-Class planet. We've detected several communications from the ship in transwarp and subspace bands. It appears that they're calling ships to them."

He paused as he entered some commands. "I'm sending all telemetry we've recorded to the BQ Command Suite along this slipstream transmission. We also watched the Sphere destroy several asteroids in this system's asteroid belt and beam aboard various materials."

Sevlek accepted the data transfer through the enhanced filter system of the Command Suite and nodded to the human, "Is there any indication what they were harvesting those materials for?"

Zandusky frowned, "Sir." He paused as he considered his answer, "We've considered everything we've sent you and my people think that the Borg might be scouting this planet for colonization. They beamed several drones to the surface, from what we could tell they did standard mineralogical surveys." He yawned, "Sorry. Anyway, they were on the planet for a hour and beamed back. Then the ship began transmitting its messages."

Sevlek considered everything he'd just heard and responded, "Ensure the safety of the Gladiator and the crew. Move to an absolute safe distance if anyone is concerned for the risk of detection. I will begin the analysis of the data you've retrieved and transmitted."

Zandusky nodded, "Understood, sir. Zandusky out."

Sevlek stood as the screen shifted to the Great Seal of the Federation and tapped his combadge, "Sevlek to Colonel Andrenicus."

After a second, the Marine answered, "Andrenicus here, go ahead, sir." He has a drowsy tone to his voice which told the Vulcan Admiral that he'd woken the man.

"Colonel, recall all primary analysts to duty in the Command Suite. We have new information that needs to be analyzed and distributed." He paused, "Classify if under priority Seclar-15-Red."

"Sir?" The surprise in the man's voice was noticeable. Seclar-15-Red was the classification given to events, governments or phenomena that could affect the security of the entire Federation.

Sevlek expected the surprise, "Yes. Seclar-15-Red. The information being analyzed is from Captain Zandusky and the Gladiator."

Andrenicus stood up from his bed and responded, "Understood, sir. I'll see you in the Command Suite in 10 minutes."

Ten minutes later Sevlek was dressed and walking through the doors of the Beta Quadrant Command Suite to assist with the analysis of the Gladiator's data.
