Mission: Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: Quarters of Captain Magbangan
Timeline: Early Morning hours..

Working in her apartment office, Hondo looked at the time and saw it was now time for bed. Lately she had been going to bed a lot later, but this time she had decided to go to bed by 2300 hrs.

So getting out of her uniform, and going to the bathroom to change, she finally came out wearing her beloved "Forty Nine" Football Jersey she got from the clothing replicator.

One day she found the old program for sports uniforms of the 21st century, and seeing that it had the patterns for all of the NFL teams, she downloaded the Forty-Niner Jersey, and in a few minutes she had an exact copy of the football jersey worn by "Colling Kaepernick, who at 50 years of age was now the Coach for the Los Angeles Raiders...

Wearing her jersey, with her hair now up in a bun, and wearing a pair of shorts, she went to the package she had received that morning. Inside was a small fruit bat that was a far distant cousin of the South American Fruit Bat. Calling it 'FESTUS" she had built it a small alcove where it would sleep during the day, and come out at night to feast on the small platter of fruits she had cut and placed on her table.

It was now around 0300 hrs, and sleeping soundly the only thing that was flying around her apartment was Festus who loved to eat the small grapes, and banannas, apples, and peaches. Festus who was only 2 inches in length and had a small wingspan of 14 inches in length gorged himself with the fruit, and when finished Festus went to its alcove to sleep.

Through the night Festus slept, and suddenly someone entered the apartment of Captain Magbangan, trying not to wake her up, the stranger suddenly tripped over a chair, and suddenly Festus who was sleeping peacefull flew to the object and covered its face, now screeching in anger, the person now with the bats wings covering his face was now stumbling in the room. AS the lights came on, Hondo said "What the Hell", and soon the person came running out screaming, saying that a large monster was now eating his brain.

With Security now on full alert, the on-duty security personnel found that the intruder was the Charge of Quarters who had failed to buzz Hondo's door, and had used a password to bypass her security codes.

Now with the young man now screaming that he had been attacked by a gigantic man-eating vampire bat, Hondo just laughed and suddenly calling out "Festus" come her. a twelve inch bat suddenly flew into the corridor, and sat on Hondo's arm.

Within a few seconds the bat suddenly shrank to its normal two inch length, now hanging upside down on Hondo's finger, she said "The bat is from the planet Qurinian IV, its relatively non-harmful and has been cleared by Starfleets Vetinarian Service as being appropriate for use as a house pet. When the bat is at rest or not frightened it stays at its two inch length, but when it is disturbed or frightened, ti shape-shifts into its 12 inch length.

Mostly the shape-shift is a normal protective mechanism from the thousands of predators that seem to feast on bats like Festus. Then she said to the CQ "Anything that I should be woken up".... "No Ma'am, but you may want to know that the regiment will be home within the next several months, and that General Jackson was wounded during the campaign.

oO Thinking to herself; hmmmm, this does not sound good at all, but hopefully he'll pull through. Oo Sa "Okay Corporal" but see to it that the next time you try to enter my apartment you go through the formal channesl, not use the CQ's password to enter my apartment"..

Taking Festus with her back to her apartment, she closed the door, leaving the poor Corporal to want to return back to his quarters to change his uniform pants....
