Mission:
Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 1845hrs, Following ' Recovery and Demolition'
ON:
After the Pegasus and other ships docked, Mike made his way to his Quarters before reporting to Ops or Sevlek. As he entered both Christopher and Janice came running and gave him warm hugs.
Janice could see the seriousness still in his eyes. “You okay?”
Mike nodded, “I’m fine. The Venator was heavily damaged, her mid-section was destroyed. Jackson was seriously wounded and is being treated in Sick Bay now. We lost a lot of good Marines and personnel aboard all ships.”
Janice nodded, she understood how Mike was feeling.
“We did recover some of the Houston’s crew. If it wasn’t for General Korok, it could have been a lot worse.” Mike added.
“Korok?” Janice asked.
Mike flashed a smile, “I’ll tell you about it later. I need to get to Ops and report to Sevlek.”
He hugged his youngest son and wife again, then headed for Ops.
He wanted to get the reports out of the way so he could spend time with his family, but once he arrived in Ops he found out K’Wor was aboard the Avenger and apart of the Sentinel’s task force to destroy the Borg Transwarp Hub. He wasn’t happy his oldest son was out there, but he understood why and knew he’d perform his duties well. That said, as a father, he didn’t like it and he was tempted to take the Pegasus back out to help in that attack but he also knew if he did that he could risk the mission worrying too much about his son. It was a tough spot, and he was filled with more concern that he’d ever felt at any other time K’Wor was off on a mission. Perhaps it was because the mission was against the Borg and Mike knew firsthand what they could do.
Mike looked over reports filed while the Pegasus was away, and the status of defenses in the Area Operational Theater, Beta Quadrant as a whole, and across the Federation. Mike then saw a report that peaked his interest, this one from the Brig from the Security Officer on duty describing how Prisoner 001 had become much more active over the last few days, exercising and training. He made a mental note to go down there and see for himself once the Borg threat passed.
Mike then verified the Houston’s recovered personnel were aboard the Station and receiving care and that her computer cores were in the hands of Sevlek’s Intelligence team. Mike then sent a message to all personnel that had been a part of the Pegasus’s Task Force to take some time to rest, eat, spend time with their families, and to unwind. He wanted them fresh when it was time for them to return to duty tomorrow, then he sent another message to Sick Bay asking for an update on Jackson.
Finally, Mike walked into his Officer, grabbed a raktijno, and took a seat in his chair. He leaned his head back and let out a deep breath. The next thing he knew it was an hour later. He took a sip of his now cold Klingon coffee, and started on his first report.
