ON:

K'Wor was a little nervous. Before leaving to face the Borg, K'Wor's father had left a message for him to meet with Fleet Admiral Sevlek about a possible 'summer job' during the few weeks he was aboard Starbase 400.

K'Wor had rather be with the task force, it was in his blood and training, but he also understand why he father didn't assign him to one of the ships.

His sister Becca had also received an officer for a 'summer job', but she'd chosen to help in Sick Bay instead. Not only did she think she could learn something she could use in her medical classes at the Academy, but with Doctor Brislan gone and off on another chapter in her life and career, she thought they could use the help.

Having exited on Level 4, K'Wor was granted access into the Beta Quadrant Command Center and was led to Sevlek's door. He tapped the chime, straightened his uniform, and stood at attention.

"Enter." Sevlek said to the chime at the door without looking up.

The young man walked in and snapped to attention again, "Cadet K'Wor reporting as ordered Sir."

"Cadet." Sevlek stood, with a PADD in his hand and indicated for K'Wor to follow him.

K'Wor glanced at the PADD but didn't get to read anything as he followed.

Sevlek walked to a cluster of consoles and a central view screen, "Commander Matthews."

A young man in Intelligence colors turned around, "Admiral, how may I help you?"

"This is Cadet K'Wor. Admiral Bremer's son. He has accepted my offer of a summer service tour in Beta Quadrant Command. I am assigning you as his review officer." Sevlek nodded to both. "Cadet, Commander Matthews is a skilled officer with many interests. Some of which you will find interesting."

K'Wor looked around the room for a moment then focused on Matthews. He'd seen him around the Station before, 'isn't he the President's son' he thought to himself. "Commander, Nice to meet you Sir.”

Matthews nodded to K'Wor as Sevlek walked away, "So, cadet. What are your planned core focuses at the Academy?"

“I’m currently focusing on Security and Tactical training. I’m also taking a few courses in Starship Operations. When I get to my third year I’ll also be adding Command courses, Sir.” K’Wor replied.

Slade looked the cadet up and down, as if getting the measure of the man. "I see." He picked up his own PADD and entered several commands. "Your first assignment is waiting on your PADD. It's a series of reports involving a pirate attack group, some freighters, a Defiant Class starship and a Saber Class Starship."

K'Wor had a puzzled expression, he wondered if this was a real report or a training scenario. "Aye sir."

"I want you to analyse the reports. Reconstruct what happened in a holographic environment. Consider this an investigation into what transpired." Slade put his PADD back on the console he was working at.

He took a step, then looked back, "Commander. I've served at Tactical and Ops aboard a Starship a few times, been apart of Security teams, all before attending the Academy...but nothing then or during my first year had anythings to do with work like this."

"You haven't encountered this yet. But you will in year three if you continue on the tactical/security track. It's called Strategic Action Analysis. Captain Lewis Markson was the instructor for the course when I was at the academy. If I had been prepared for his class, I would have gotten a 4.0 GPA that year. So, my job is to prepare you. He likes to throw in information that seems relevant on the surface, but is, in fact, completely irrelevant to the entire series of events."

"So this is something that's taught as Security and Tactical training?" K'Wor asked, wanting more information.

"Technically, yes. It is something a Strategic Operations Officer or Strategic Intelligence Operations Officer would do. But, it'll come in handy for you in the tactical/security track. If you do well, you might be able to get more than just summer internship credit."

K'Wor smirked, he liked the sound of that. "When do you want the results by?"

"You have the rest of today. Your analysis is due tomorrow at 0900 hours." Slade smiled. K'Wor would do well at the report analysis. How well he did at communicating the finer points of the action? That was the more interesting question.

K'Wor's eyes widened for a moment, a lot of work in a short period of time. "Understood sir."

"Dismissed, cadet. Enjoy the rest of your day. Also, holodeck BQ-1 has been reserved for you. Down the main corridor, 6th door on the left." Matthews nodded to the young man as he snapped to a crisp attention and turned on his heels to leave.

K'Wor headed for the holodeck. Once there he spend a few minutes looking over the PADD. 'He likes to throw in information that seems relevant on the surface, but is, in fact, completely irrelevant to the entire series of events.' K'Wor thought, remembering the tip Matthews said. Information from the Saber class ship's logs seemed rather generalized, but the data from the Defiant class ship's seemed much more detailed. There was also some information from a Starfleet listening post that monitored the engagement too. He took a deep breath and started typing information into the Holodeck's terminal...
