Mission: Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 1125hrs, Following, 'Facing the Borg'

ON:

Standing at the airlock doors ready to depart the Transport Ship Hadrian, Lwazanda Ral began to fidget with her headdress. Lwazanda was dressed in a fitted gold gown, embroidered head to toe in an intricate blue ivy pattern, and a matching blue head wrap. She was iced with priceless heirlooms of the Fifth House. To any passerby, she might look utterly ridiculous. But to a Betazoid, she was dressed quite appropriately.

She slowly turned to the other members of her party, "Why is this taking so bloody long?" She demanded.

Mirenna, Lwazanda's handmaiden, shrugged. "Broke, I reckon." She said, her voice dripping with a northern Betazoid drawl.

Mirenna's response illicited snide snickers from several others occupying the airlock. They went silent at the icy gaze shot by Lwazanda.

Lwazanda eyed her handmaiden with amusement as the door separating the ship from Starbase 400 hissed open.

"Showtime!" She called telepathically, as she started down the ramp towards the threshold.

"Who in Holy Rixx is in charge around here?" Lwazanda demanded as she stepped off the ramp to the Station.

Ops

Janice had tried to keep herself busy ever since the task force left. She was worried about her husband, well everyone that had left to investigate the possibility of Borg in the Beta Quadrant. Of course, she was more worried about Mike than anyone else. Not just the fact he was off again in another battle, but after his last encounter with the Borg she was worried he'd have PTSD flashbacks. Not that Mike never showed any signs of such, but as a wife, she worried.

"Jewel, has there been any word from the Task Force yet?" Janice asked

She looked at Janice with a calm look on her face, "Not yet Janice." Jewel replied calmly to her. "Everything will be ok Janice," she said even though she wasn't sure herself but she didn't let that show.

Janice sighed, "Please let me know when they check in."

Lieutenant Maxwell looked back from the Docking Control station, "General, the transport ship Hadrian has docked and its passengers are disembarking now. There's a passenger that's requesting to see who ever is in charge."

She sighed for a moment, "Very well I'll be down there shortly," she said as she then looked at Janice. "Care to join me?" She asked as they both left Ops to head down to the docking bay to meet with this person.

Janice flashed kind of a smile, "Sure."

They continued to the docking bay and once they arrived they looked at a women appearing to be the one that requested her. "I am Major General Jewel Hurd, I am currently in charge how can I help you?" She asked in a stern voice looking at the woman.

"Four Deities! Janice Fultian? Is that you?" Lwazanda called, ignoring the General. "I'd know that face anywhere. Just like Mike described"

Janice was taken off guard, especially since her thoughts were with the task force and not really on the here and now. She blinked to refocus and studied the woman for a moment before allowing a smile to cross her face. "Lwazanda! It's so good to finally meet you face to face." She had heard some stories about the Betazoid woman from Mike, and his description of her was almost perfect. Mike and Lwazanda had met aboard Deep Space Nine many years ago when Mike was a Lieutenant Commander in the Security Department, even before Mike had met Janice.

Almost immediately Lwazanda took Janice into an embrace, "So good to see you!" She said, squeezing Janice tight.

Lwazanda eyes drifted to Major Hurd with intrigue, "My, aren't you absolutely singular." She reached out and put a hand on Jewel's arm, "It's good to see a woman who realizes that it's okay to be handsome."

She took in the Major from head to toe, "What do they call you dear?"

She raised an eyebrow at the women in front of her. "Major General Hurd, you wanted to see the person currently in charge. Well I am that person, what can I help you with?" She said as she thought this person was strange. How'd she know her sister, she thought to herself looking at the women then back at Janice.

"Nothing really." she admitted, still beaming at both women."I suppose I'm just used to a little more pomp and ceremony." she smiled.

"But now that you're here, " She turned towards the ramp leading to her ship, "If you could arrange for my things to be brought to my temporary quarters, and find me an update on my apartment." Her hands found their way to her head wrap again, "You'd think with the expense of the damned thing it would be ready on time."

Janice looked at Jewel. She could see her expression changing. Janice then looked back to Lwazanda, "how about I call a Yeoman for you to help you with your things and accompany you to your new quarters. Jewel can get back to Ops, we have a lot going on right now."

Sensing the tension, Lwazanda conceded, "That sounds lovely." She turned back to the other members of her party, "Stannis, did you arrange permenant berthing for Hadrian?"

The Betazoid man shook his head, "No my lady. The matter slipped my mind."

Sighing, Lwazanda returned her gaze to Jewel, "I assume it isn't too late to make such arrangements?"

"No, it's not too late, I'll get on that right away." Jewel said as she sighed as she could tell she was going to be the annoying type. She remembered another person that got on her nerves much like everyone else who had crossed paths with her. "Now, if that is all I must get back to Ops." Jewel stated looking at the woman then her sister.

Smiling brightly, Lwazanda said, "It was a pleasure to meet you Major. We'll have to do this another time. Lunch maybe?"

"Absolutely." Janice replied.
