Mission:
Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: USS Pegasus/Starfleet Command
Timeline: Current / Stardate 65063.3
ON:
Pegasus, Yorktown, Avenger, and Venator had dropped out of warp, and were at impulse speed, moving though the Sol system.
Admiral Bremer was on the Bridge of the Pegasus and watched as Earth grew bigger on the main viewer.
"Chief, once we're cleared, put us into geo-synchronies orbit above San Francisco." Mike ordered.
"Aye sir." The reply came from the experienced NCO at the Conn. Chief Branson had been a member of the Pegasus's crew for ten years, so he already had plotted his orbital approach before Mike had given the word.
"Space Dock, this is the USS Pegasus, requesting permission to enter Earth orbit. USS Yorktown, USS Avenger, and USS Venator will remain in formation with us while in orbit." Harrison sent the message over the comm system.
"USS Pegasus, this is Earth Space Dock Operations, you and your escorts are cleared for Earth Orbit. Maintain standard altitude. Welcome home." The friendly reply from the female communications officer was a warm welcome. Much more inviting than the last time the Pegasus arrived at Earth.
"We'll be in orbit in five minutes Admiral." The Chief added.
"Harrison, Highsmith, you're with me. Have Captains K`Temoc, Andrews, and Greenwood standing by for transport." Said the Admiral as he walked up the ramp to the aft turbolift.
Just over five minutes later, four men and one woman dematerialized on the main transporter padd at Starfleet Command. A Rear Admiral, an Andorian Mike didn't know, was there to meet them...along with two armed Security Officers.
"Admiral Bremer, Captains, Colonel...welcome to Starfleet Command. I'm Rear Admiral Shon. Please, follow me."
As they left the transporter room, the two Security Officers followed behind the Officers from Starbase 400...
"Are the Security Officers really necessary Admiral?" K`Temoc bluntly asked.
The Andorian looked back over his shoulder, "Perhaps not, Captain, but to be equally blunt, after your last visit, we need to make sure there will be no additional...problems."
K`Temoc looked over at his brother, and Mike just shook his head as if to say, `let it alone`.
After the brief walk, the group rounded a corner and came to one of the main meeting and briefing rooms used by Starfleet Command's top brass. The doors opened and the group from Starbase 400 walked in, heads held high and shoulders back. The two Security Officers took positions on either side of the door, but remained outside as it closed.
Inside, at a raised desk that resembled an elongated judge's bench, sat Fleet Admiral Nechayev, Starfleet CnC. To her right sat Vice Admiral Nakamura the Vice-CnC. Vice Admiral Toddman and to her left say Vice Admiral Janeway and Admiral Ross. Janeway and Ross both flashed a smile at Bremer and the others. Toddman nodded in respect, but Nakamura and Nechayev sat almost expressionless.
"Admiral Bremer, you and your Officers, please have a seat." Nechayev said as she motioned toward a long table in the middle of the room. Mike took a seat in the middle, with K`'Temoc, Greenwood, and Harrison to his right. Andrews and Highsmith sat to his left.
"Before we get started, " Nechayev stated, but Bremer cut her off...
"With all due respect Admiral, where is my wife?" Mike tone and expression clearly shown his anger at the long delay in Janice's return home. Mike respected the chain of command, respected his superior officers, and respected Starfleet Regulations, but at this point...enough was enough.
Janeway and Ross turned to Nechayev, as if to repeat Mike's question. A moment in silence passed before she replied...
As the door opened and Major General Janice Fultian-Bremer proudly walked in, "I believe she's here now." Nachayev even flashed a brief smile.
Mike quickly stood and met his wife halfway between the door and the table. No hesitation, they lovingly embraced each other and shared a soft kiss...
"Are you okay?" He asked with concern.
"I'm fine." She replied with a smile.
As they walked back to the table, K`Temoc also stood and hugged his sister-in-law as Mike grabbed a chair for her and placed it between himself and Andrews to his left.
Once they finally sat down, Nechayev spoke up. "Now. This meeting will brief. There are some questions we have regarding recent events involving you and your crew here on Earth. This is not a hearing, and no one is being charged with any offence at this time."
Mike nodded, "Proceed."
"Admiral Bremer, how did your ship circumvent the detection grid that surrounds the Sol system?" Toddman's question was cleared asked because of his Security background...
"Our Engineers and Science Officers took advantage of a defective tachyon/sensor array. After everything was over, we sent the technical data to Admirals Ross and Janeway so modifications can be made." Mike replied.
Toddman nodded, "If you knew the Romulans were involved in espionage with former Admiral Jellico, do you think it was unwise to put a hole in Earth's defenses?"
"The `hole` we made was only temporary, long enough for the Pegasus to slip though. We made sure to keep Earth's defenses intact, this way if Romulans did come they would be detected. Furthermore, the Pegasus was cloaked the entire trip, from undocking within SB400 until long after we were at Earth. We made sure to not only prevent the Romulans from knowing our location, but prevented Starfleet from knowing too." Bremer replied.
Toddman again nodded, "Thank you."
Vice Admiral Nakamura then spoke up, "Captain K`Temoc. When Admiral Bremer left the Pegasus and beamed down to the surface, you were left in command of the Pegasus, correct?"
"Yes sir it is." He replied.
"And when the Pegasus was ordered to heave too and stand down by the USS Excalibur, you disobeyed Captain Calhoun's orders?" Nakamura asked.
"That's also correct. At that time, we still did not know who all we could trust, furthermore Captain Calhoun and Admiral Jellico had worked together previously so this put the Captain in prime position to be assisting Jellico. Additionally, we had personnel being held aboard the Excalibur, Admiral Janeway, Captain Weatherlight, and Acting Ensign K`Wor." K`Temoc replied.
"Admiral Bremer, your Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Smith had been compromised during the mission, is that correct?" Nakamura asked, bluntly.
"Lieutenant Commander Smith is a loyal officer, he was never compromised." Mike replied, anger in his tone of voice.
"But your reports say he was contacted by outside agents, apparently working for Admiral Jellico, and told his friend...a Lieutenant Amy Rogers had been taken hostage, and if he didn't do as they instructed they would kill her. Is that not correct?" Nakamura challenged back.
"That is true, however just after these agents made contact, Mr. Smith make me fully aware and contacted to do his duty, as well as helping lead on those agents. In the end, he as well as Ms. Rogers were key in eliminating those agents, partly though misinformation he fed them."
Nakamura nodded.
Mike leaned back in his seat. ` This meeting will brief` my ass, he thought.
OFF:
TAG Andrews, Harrison, Highsmith, Greenwood...JP coming!
