397 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission 87 - Disaster
Location: Starbase 400, outside Transporter Room One
Timeline: MD2, 1830 hrs, Following 'Assassination Attempt Investigation'

ON:

Roebuck and Lokran arrived outside the transporter room where the bomb had exploded and Admiral Bremer had been stabbed.

Two Marines had been guarding the area, which was untouched since the assassination attempt. There was blood still on the deck and soot and debris were scattered and on the bulkheads.

Roebuck nodded to the Marines, then started scanning the area, he immediately noticed something, “Commander, tricorder readings confirm what we saw in Ops. The bomb was chemical based, RDX.” He showed his readings to Lokran then added, “I believe the bomb was meant to simply injure, disorient the victims long enough for the assassin to get in close to kill them, using the smoke as cover so he wouldn’t be seen.”

"You have done good work. I have some other information that will show something as well." said R'nard.

A moment later, one of the Damage Control techs spoke up, "Sir, in here. I found what looks to be the trigger device."

Roebuck walked inside the transporter room's open and damaged doors. He scanned the device. "It's a bio sensor, a rather common one of Federation design." After a moment, he added, "Commander, its set to scan for Krazzle life signs, not Human or Klingon. Sir, I think the assassination attempt was on Ra' Graline, not the Admiral."

"It is possible. I finally found footage that shows our perpetrator." he pulled out a PADD. "Does this look familiar to any of you?"

Roebuck looked over the display. It wasn't the best quality, but the man's features could be made out. "No, I've never seen him before." He paused a moment, then added, "Rather nondescript looking fellow, if you weren't looking for him specifically you'd miss him."

He looked around the area again, "So we have this supposed assassin for hire. He used four hundred year old chemical explosives as a distraction, then attacked the leader of the Krazzle Empire and Commanding Officer of this Starbase, and was able to make his escape as if he had intimate knowledge of this Station. The remaining question is, why? Him being half C'hakilian just doesn't explain it all to me." Roebuck said.

The two Security Officers looked around for a few more minutes, but nothing else new was found. They allowed the damage control team to begin work on repairs as they left and headed for Ops.
