OFF: Okay, so moving on, we'll pick up just after the previous mission
ended. I'm not going to post much about it, so you all can add in
something if you like, especially Mr Smith regarding his friend. We're
also going to assume LtGen Bremer has already been rescued...because let's face it, if she wasn't that is where Adm. Bremer would be going right
now lol.
Most of this is going to be back story/filler to bring us up to date,
bringing some changes to light, and just getting us moving again. The
Mission 75 'plot', we'll come up with later...
ON:
Mike sat in the command chair, leaning back. His legs were crossed, his
elbows resting on the chair's arm rests, his hands resting in his lap. He
was tired, more mentally than physically. A lot had happened since the
Pegasus arrived at Earth. They had stopped a major conspiracy at the heart
of Starfleet Command, arrested Admiral Jellico, found Vice Admiral T'Lok
dead, captured a Romulan ship...with the help of the USS Excalibur...and
arrested another fifteen Starfleet Officers and Romulan Tal Shair members
for espionage and treason. Twelve Pegasus crewmembers had been killed,
mostly Marines, another ten wounded including Mike's son K'Wor.
To add to the stress, Mike's own wife had been 'arrested' by JAG, and
taken out of the system while Mike was on Earth and the Pegasus was in no position to give chase. Thankfully, the kidnappers headed in the direction the USS Cairo was patrolling, and they were able to pursue and rescue her. Once they returned to Earth, Janice would be debriefed, then returned to SB400.
But, there would be no rest for the weary. Something was brewing inside
Romulan space and the Pegasus was having to rush back to SB400. However, she had a little extra help! Joining them was Vice Admiral Stryfe and the Ambassador Class USS Alabama, Captain Greenwood and the Defiant Class USS Avenger, as well as the brand new Defiant Class USS Laffey, and the old reliable Excelsior Class USS Tripitz. Four more ships assigned to SB400, bringing her permanently assigned 'fleet' to fourteen vessels. That was the good news. The bad news was, even though SB400 was gaining some experienced Officers and Crew, they were losing others.
"Admiral, there's a message coming in from Starfleet Command, Priority
One." Harrison announced from her Tactical Station, moments after the comm beeped.
Mike slowly stood up and nodded, "I'll take it in my Ready Room Captain."
Mike walked into his Ready Room, and took a seat at his desk. He tapped
the terminal display and Admirals Janeway and Ross appeared.
"We've learned more about what is going on inside Romulan space...a lot
more." Ross's face wore a grim expression.
"It took a while for the information to get disseminated because of
everything that has been going on here in the last ninety-six hours."
Janeway's expression was equally grim.
"What IS going on?" Mike focused on them a little more, this was obviously
serious...
"Romulus" Janeway started, "has been destroyed. So has Remus."
Mike didn't know what to say for a moment. What could have destroyed the
twin planets with seemingly so little warning he asked himself. "How...?"
Ross spoke up, "Apparently the Hobus star went nova, it's destruction
triggered a collapse within the Romulan sun that was irreversible. The
Romulans had known this was imminent for sometime now, and we believe that is what lead them to not only take drastic measures like
their recent spying endeavor but to also seal their borders, and re-enter
the Typhon Pact with the Gorn, Tholians, and others."
"We've offered aid, but the Romulans are refusing any and all help from
us. The bulk of their fleet has massed along the Klingon and Federation
borders." Janeway added.
"Do you want us to reciprocate? I can have nearly fifty ships at the
border in less than twenty-six hours." Mike asked.
"Negative, we don't want to appear hostile. Increase patrols, but nothing
major." Ross replied.
"Copy that." Mike said.
Another Officer walked up behind Janeway and Ross and handed Janeway a PADD. She read it, and said 'My God' as she handed it to Ross.
"We have some additional intel." Ross paused again. "Ambassador Spock is
reported missing in the vicinity of Romulus, a small one man vessel he was
piloting was pulled inside a black hole which he created in hopes of consuming the supernova."
"I thought the Ambassador was on Vulcan." Mike asked.
"He was, put it seems he learned of the impending destruction and called
in a favor. The Enterprise-E picked him up and took him into Romulan
space. The Enterprise took damage from an armed Romulan mining vessel, the Narada, commanded by someone named Nero. That ship was also pulled into the hole after the Ambassador's ship, but it closed before the Enterprise could follow. They have no clue as to where, or when the two ships have gone." Ross explained, paraphrasing what was on the PADD.
Mike could only shake his head, words just didn't describe what he was
thinking and feeling about the major changes that had taken shape. "So...the Romulans are blaming us."
"It appears so. The Enterprise will dock at Starbase 400 in thirty-two
hours, I want you to debrief the Command Crew, then the ship is to be
decommissioned." Ross replied.
Mike looked up in surprise, having to decommission the Enterprise-E...but
before he could say anything the comm beeped, "Bremer here."
"Admiral, sorry for bothering you, but there is a Priority One message
coming in from the station." Harrison announced.
Janeway nodded, knowing Mike needed to take the call. Contact us when you arrive at Starbase 400, Starfleet Command out."
Mike tapped the terminal, "Route it though Captain."
Lieutenant Archer appeared on the screen, he had been in Command of SB400 while the Pegasus and the Command Crew were away, "Admiral, we've had a security breach. Apparently, members of Commander Tamarith's crew broke into Medical Storage to steal medical supplies, then tried to take one of the Rakal's shuttles but were captured. Commander Tamarith has returned the medical supplies, but she wishes to speak to you, says it's urgent."
Mike nodded, "Put her on."
The Romulan Commander stepped in front of the screen, her face, like
Janeway's and Ross's was showing signs of stress and sadness. "Admiral
Bremer, I first apologize for the actions of five of my crew. They are
being disciplined and sent back into Romulan space."
Mike nodded. "Apology accepted." Bremer could see that she wanted to say
more.
"Admiral. Myself and the rest of my crew, we are requesting asylum within
the United Federation of Planets." Tamarith added.
"You're defecting?" Mike was surprised. In the ten years they had known
each other, even when she was the XO of the Pegasus and unhappy with
decisions of the Romulan government, Tamarith never once indicated she
wanted to defect.
"Yes sir. I can further explain more when you return to the Station."
Mike nodded, "Granted, I will advise Starfleet Command."
Tamarith nodded. "My crew and I will be aboard our ship, awaiting their
decision." She flashed a thankful smile, something she rarely did, then
walked away.
Mike closed the comm channel and leaned back in his chair. So many
changes, major changes, in such a short amount of time. It could make your
head spin. He looked out the window behind him, watching the Alabama and Laffey following the Pegasus, the Avenger and Tripitz were to the other
side of the Pegasus and out of his line of sight. Mike tapped his comm
badge, "Senior Staff, report to Tactical Astrometerics in five minutes.
Captain Harrison, make sure Vice Admiral Stryfe and Captain Greenwood are aware and attend." Mike closed the comm, folded his arms and looked out past the ships at the blackness of space...
OFF: Tag everyone. Post up!
