Refelcting Breifly

Posting personal logs were not her thing as she was the go getter of the family and not one to really settle down but it seemed that this job had a bit of a down time between postings so she had time to record a brief personal log and reflect so far on her Starbase 400 experience without revealing too much about her past in the process. She hoped as a part of her always feared she would break the silent vow not to mention the true reason why she dropped off being an officer for a while. Taking up the padd she began her recording.

I have been assigned to one of the most active starbases in the area. The Commander I've not gotten to know very well as he is off doing much more important things on one of the several ships attached to the base. It seems to me that operations is quite in comparison to most operations areas I've been in before. The team works well together and seems to understand command absence doesn't mean to let down on performance. There is a civilian population on the base as well that we need to account for daily for power use. This is taxing sometimes on the systems as we have to delay ship departures till the spikes go down to release the docking clamps without tearing the hull of the ship apart. Part of me wants to solve this while a part of me knows there is only so much you can add onto something before it gives out completely.

The Endeavor right now is not launch ready as there is a part on its way to starbase to fix an operations issue that the good Captain of the ship allowed me to sit in on. It was a pleasure to see him embrace his limitations but at the same time know his own strengths. He is a good man with a solid engineering crew to back him up so once the part arrives I foresee no further delays for that ship. The part will be in on base about 36 hours from now providing the natives don't get wrestless and try to hijack the ship. That hasn't happened in a while but there is a history of it in the sector so one always has to account for that. For the Captain's sake though I hope for a speedy passage and transport of the hardware.

There is also the issue of one of my operations officers getting into some problems of a serious matter. Details so far are still coming out as I am getting information from Chief Petty Officer O'Reily. He has communicated with me that he needs to speak to me about the officer's actions, however details and the reason why the charges are coming up have been slow coming. I fear that disciplinary action will be necessary and that it will have to come from me. Making a formal report is one thing but confronting, disciplining, and enforcing that is another. One role in which I wish I didn't have to do everywhere I went, but seemed to be a trend for me. One would think operations being something the mind and hands have to be involved in that this type of a situation wouldn't arise but it seems that it comes about all too common. Makes me wonder what stresses people are experiencing that either I shield myself from or am accustom to.

With two open projects one would think that I would break or something, but I seem to thrive on this pressure and consider it a personal challenge if I can't. There are people always depending on my opinions and ability to do my job but it seems to be more out in the open here which is nice because then command can't come out of the office or off the ship and say I did nothing when so much went down the tubes that needed my attention all at once. The starbase, the ships, and the people always are variables in my work and something I've come to enjoy over the course of an assignment. I am hoping that this starbase won't be any different.

It was with that she closed the padd record down and went back to her station knowing full well that the few moments it took her to record that she could have missed out on something. She was after all manning the operations panel of the station and needed to be alert for ships coming in and going out. Not to mention all the communications going on and the never ending in and out of people out of operations. She hit save and went back to work.
