What a day

ON:
Braxton collapsed into Hades' chair, the chair he was temporarily occupying until Hades was back.
He sighed and rubbed his hands over his face. "Computer, begin log."
He waited for the chirps that told him that his log was ready to start. He took a deep breath and began, "Today was absolutely insane." His Cajun accent twisted the words ever so slightly.
"Busy, emergencies, I... I am starting to notice the inefficiency that Hades was talking about. There is much to fix. Now is the only time I have had to sit and think. I think about Nicole, I think of her face, her smile, mostly I think how I will never hear her laugh again. The anniversary of her death, she is approaching. It is never a good time. Hades said he'd be back...it is not a time I like to spend working. I need to be alone with my memories."
He leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes. "I feel...tired all of the time. The closer that cursed day comes the more tired I get."
A thought popped into his head. His old Marine friend, who was here on a short layover, suggested that Braxton speak with Splendora. She was a non Fleet counselor. He'd toyed with the idea a time or two but decided against it. He didn't want to bother anyone with his pain, nor did he want to look weak to the other Marines.
He rubbed his temples, trying to stave off a mighty headache. He'd lost count of how many patients he'd seen today.
He knew thought, the day was not over. He had two ensigns whose waters broke on the same day and that meant two deliveries. "I have been grateful for Splendora's help. She comes in every once in a while throughout the day to help out where she can, provide the bedside manner I lack." He smiled at that. Sticky Nicky had never minded his bedside manner. In fact the squad he was on was full of grumps. He laughed a bit. "I guess I have a lot to learn about medicine, about all sorts of things. Hades makes it look so easy. Speaking of my cousin. I worry about him. Something has changed with Shrivol. I can tell. Hades is...sad, he seems to be lost in his mind a lot. I have made a vow to speak with him when he returns."
Braxton was just about to continue when he got the call that one of the ensigns who was in labour was ready to deliver. He sighed, closed off the log, and stood. "Show time," he said to himself as he headed out the door.
