Working Things Out

Posted on Fri May 3rd, 2013 @ 2:19am by Fleet Admiral Sevlek & Fleet Admiral Mike K`Wor Bremer

1,501 words; about a 8 minute read

Mission: Mission 82 - The Aggressor
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: A few hours after 'Heading Back to the Station'

ON:

After arriving back at Starbase 400, Mike went straight to his Office. He carried the one of the three PADDs he'd been given on Earth by Brunel. He glanced at it one more time before locking it in his desk.

"Computer, locate Admiral Sevlek."

The computer beeped then replied, "Admiral Sevlek is in his Office on Deck Four."

Mike listened to the answer before leaving his Office and headed for the closest turbolifts in Ops. A few minutes later, he stepped out and onto Deck Four. He walked a few meters before coming to an outer door.

'Sevlek's been busy.' he thought, since the door here was new. He tapped the button on the door's panel and as it opened an Officer stepped out.

"I'm here to see Admiral Sevlek." Mike said to the Officer before he could ask why he was there.

The ensign stepped through the door and allowed it to slide shut, he paused, obviously searching through his memory, then finally found it and said, "Admiral Bremer?" A pause as he checked the PADD, "Yes. Alright, Admiral Sevlek added you to the authorization level blue list a few hours ago." He pointed to a panel on the wall. "I'm sorry but before I can grant you access, I need a retinal scan and voice print verification."

Mike thought to himself, while he wasn’t sure of Sevlek’s color-coded authorization was, but having been ‘granted access’ already was at least a step in the right direction. Mike walked over to the wall mounted retinal scanner and leaned forward while opening his eyes wide.

After the scanner verified him, Mike spoke up, “Computer, recognize Bremer, Admiral Mike K’Wor, authorization code Four-Seven-Bravo-Delta.” Once the computer beeped he looked back at the Ensign. “Need some DNA too?” He said with a smirk.

"No, sir. One moment please." He entered a few commands on the wall mounted scanner's control pad and then said, "Computer, authorization Immerson-Grey-Three-Three-Pi-Theta. Confirm data entered by Admiral Mike Bremer and store in ready access blue clearance files." A few chirps and then the ensign spoke to Bremer again, "Admiral, if you'd follow me, I'd be happy to see if the Admiral has a moment to meet with you. The young ensign turned and entered the door with Bremer following.

As they left the section of the hallway that had been reconstructed to form the entry lobby and entered the larger work area, the ensign motioned for the station's CO to wait as he walked to the command table and spoke with Andrenicus who nodded. The ensign returned to where Bremer waited and said, "The Admiral just finished a briefing with the President, Starfleet CnC and Chairperson of the Security Council. He is able to see you."

After he told Bremer he walked to the office Sevlek was occupying and rang the chime and from within came the crisp response, "Enter."

Both men entered and Immseron said, "Sir, Admiral Bremer to see you. He's been added to blue clearance as listed in security procedure updates issued a short time ago."

Sevlek nodded, "Thank you, ensign. You are dismissed."

After the young man left the office and the doors slid shut Sevlek looked to Bremer and flatly asked, "Admiral, to what do I know this visit?"

Mike straightened his uniform before getting right to the first, point. "I know you were sent her by the President, and I know part of your job is to monitor the ongoing Krazzle / C'Hak conflict. However, the other part of your mission here...you were sent to watch ME. Correct?"

Sevlek nodded, "I was sent here to ascertain your mental condition after the loss of your children, and if, in my opinion, you were unfit I was authorized by Presidential order to relieve you of duty and assume command myself, or assign Vice Admiral T'Lar as acting CO while you returned to Starfleet Medical for counselling." The Vulcan regarded the other man coolly, "I have since reported to both the President and Admiral Nechayev that, in my opinion, the loss of your children has affected you no more, or no less than what could be expected.”

“My ‘mental condition’ shouldn’t be called into question. I made no decisions that put anyone into any unnecessary danger. If the President or Fleet Admiral Nechayev has any concerns, they could of just asked me. YOU could have been honest with me.” Mike replied. He wasn’t angered, just blunt with the response.

"You made no current decisions that put anyone into unnecessary danger." Sevlek paused and held his hand up briefly before Bremer could speak, "However, the present is not always an indication of what could come to pass in the future." Sevlek regarded Bremer, he was maintaining his cool and being patient, both signs that Sevlek had chosen the right man for what may come to pass. "I am unable to tell you the specifics of what may happen, but if a particular event happens, you were the person that I chose to field command a task force in the coming months."

Mike nodded. “Thank you.” He thought to himself a moment, it was really nothing more than what he would of done for one of his officers. That said, he still didn’t like all the secrecy.

“What can you tell me about the ongoing conflict?” Mike asked, “There’s no way the Krazzle fleet could have pushed so far into C’Hakilian space so quickly...not without help.” Granted, Mike didn’t have all the data on the war yet, and while the Krazzle were cunning warriors, an offshoot of the Caitians, and their fleet had some powerful warships, but the C’Hakilians had always been able to defend their border. Something didn’t add up.

Sevlek was quiet for a moment, considering what was to be said, "The information I am going to be sharing with you is restricted. You cannot share it with anyone else." Sevlek didn't wait for Bremer's agreement, he knew the Admiral would follow that directive, it was his duty. "Recent intelligence gathering has provided information that the Krazzle aren't alone in their efforts. The Typhon Pact has sent as many as 800 ships from the various member militaries. That is why the C'hakilian Empire has lost 13 systems and an additional 20 are under siege. All C'hakilian forces capable of being mobilized have been reassigned to defend the fifteen core systems of the C'hakilian Empire."

Mike shook his head, “The Typhon Pact has no business assisting the Krazzle attempt a military take over of another sovereign people’s territory.” He looked out the window for a moment as a Sovereign class ship neared the station, almost on que, then turned back to Sevlek. “Is Starfleet planning to take action?”

"My report and recommendation are being discussed by the Federation Council's Security Council. President Matthews and Admirals Nechayev, Akaar and Nakamura have all agreed with my plan of action." Sevlek anticipated the next question, "My recommendation was a stabilization force composed of Federation, Klingon and Cardassian vessels forcing a border. Klingon and Cardassian Intelligence agencies have conferred with me and have agreement from Chancellor Martok and Legate Garak."

Sevlek entered some commands on a PADD and handed it to Bremer, "That data shows the fleet movements from the Typhon Pact members. They circumvented our long-range detection abilities by taking a prolonged course to the far side of Krazzle space and have since been striking outside of our maximum sensor range."

"If my recommendations are followed, the 10th and 11th Fleets, the Klingon 7th Fleet and the Cardassian 5th Order will all be transferred to my command to carry out actions warranted necessary by the person I place in command of the fleet in the field." Sevlek watched the realization, "Therefore, it was necessary for me to be certain your mental capacities were still intact."

Mike thought for a moment. A blockade of Krazzle space could either lead to a stabilization of the conflict, allowing the C'Hak fleet to hold it's own...or start the next galactic war, between the Federation/Klingon Alliance and the Typhon Pact. He thought about Picard's blockade of the Klingon/Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War in 2367 as well as the Federation's mine blockade of the Wormhole that triggered the Dominion War.

He knew the Commanding Officer of the Klingon Seventh Fleet, General G'Tar was an experienced warrior, even 'level headed' for a Klingon. Mike also knew the new Commanding Officer of the Cardassian Fifth Order, and he wasn't looking forward to seeing Legate Evek again.

On a side note, Mike needed to have a chat with Martok. As a member of the Chancellor's House, he should of told Mike about Sevlek's plan...but then again Sevlek probably never mentioned Mike to Martok anyway. Vulcans...

"Give me the word and I'll get a plan of action together."

"I want a report on my desk within 96 hours containing that information."

"You'll have it." Mike replied.
