Mission:
Episode 122 - "Trekking the Multiverse"
Location: Starbase 400, Bremer's Office
Timeline: Current
On:
Mike was in his office, taking a sip of Château Picard, "That's good."
"Right?" Tom replied. "There's several cases that were just delivered. I don't usually serve anything other than Italian wines, but..."
"Take one case. Have one case sent to my quarters, then pass out a bottle to each of the Department Heads and Senior Staff." Mike replied. "And I'll send our thanks to Admiral Picard."
Tom nodded with a smile, then turned to leave.
"Oh, leave that bottle." Mike added with a smirk.
Tom turned back, flashed a smile, and set the bottle on Mike's desk, then walked out the door.
A moment later, the comm-panel on Mike's desk beeped. He moved the glass and bottle to the side, then tapped the button.
"Good afternoon Admiral." Admiral Aquna said as the screen came to life.
"Admiral, how can I be of help?" Mike replied.
"What do you remember of the Battle of the Binary Stars?" Aquna asked, almost cryptically.
Mike raised an eyebrow, "Battle between the a Klingon sect and Starfleet in 2256 that set off another Federation/Klingon war. Thousands dead." He paused a moment, "Why do you ask?"
"A cargo ship claims to have located the USS Earhart, NCC-1052, adrift in an asteroid field. They claim to have also picked up a minute power signature, but they couldn't maneuver into the field. I want you to investigate. If the Earhart did survive, bring her crew home for proper burial, recover her logs, you know the drill." Aquna explained.
Mike nodded, "Understood, and if the ship's structure is sound we'll have tugs bring the ship herself home too."
"Starbase 80 and Deep Space K-7 are closer than 400 is, I'll put them on notice should you need any support." Aquna added.
Both Starbases were within the Ares Operational Area, and thus under Mike's command as the Ares Area Commander, but he didn't mind Starfleet Command putting a bug in the Station Commanders' ears.
"We'll keep Starfleet Command updated on our progress. Bremer out."
Mike closed the channel after Admiral Aquna nodded her approval. He then took another sip of the Château Picard wine and leaned back in his chair. After a moment of silent reflection, he tapped his comm-badge. "Admiral T'Lar, please report to my Office."
Deela's son, Brandon, had returned to the base and surprised her and Raivyn. They were discussing what he wanted to do once he graduated from Starfleet Academy next year. She hoped that he would come back to Starbase 400 but that was up to him. He was just about to tell her when they were interrupted. Deela sighed, "Sorry, duty calls. We'll talk about it later." She answered Bremer back, "On my way." She hugged Brandon, then left.
She made her way to Bremer's office. Despite being summoned, she pressed the chime and waited.
"Enter." Mike said when the door chime sounded. As T'Lar stepped in, Mike motioned to one of the sofas for her to take a seat. He handed her and PADD and explained the mission Starfleet Command had assigned them too.
"I think two ships will be enough, the Pegasus and Essex. Commander Monroe-Wayne has asked to be taken off away missions for now and I think Ariana can handle temporary command of the station. I'll ask Roebuck to act as her XO." Mike explained. "With K'Temoc and the Yorktown away from the station as well, this will be a good test for Ariana."
Deela looked at the PADD's content for a moment before answering, "Most definitely. She handled being my XO on the Essex on the last mission and did very well."
Deela looked back down at the PADD, "A minute power signature after all this time?" she asked. "Has the cargo ship provided any indication of its source? Emergency systems shouldn't have remained operational that long."
"Nothing. They couldn't get close enough and their sensors aren't sensitive enough to cut through the interference of the nearby asteroids. It might be nothing, but it could indicate something is still active. We'll have to get an away team aboard to confirm." Mike replied.
Mike then tapped a few buttons on PADD he was holding, and a command roster for each ship was displayed on the wall monitor behind him.

Deela studied the roster for a moment, her gaze pausing briefly on one unfamiliar name. "Lieutenant Brooke is new to Starbase 400, isn't he?" she asked before looking back to Mike. "If we're potentially boarding a one hundred and fifty-year-old vessel with an unknown power source, this will certainly be an interesting first mission for him."
Bremer smirked. "Agreed, however with Colonel Bagwell, Mr. Rann, Mr. Arev, Ms. Vox, and Lieutenant JG Roebuck all there, who have all seen some 'interesting' missions before, he'll be fine."
Deela nodded, "A fair point. If he can keep up with that group, he'll do just fine." She gave the roster one final glance before setting the PADD aside, "I'll have the Essex ready. What's our departure window?"
"Eighteen hundred hours. That'll give standby crews on both ships a few hours to be ready for departure." Mike replied.
"Good. That should give me time to get my affairs in order." Unfortunately, she's going to have to tell her son, Brandon, who was visiting that she has to leave. "Anything else I need to know?"
Mike shook his head. "You know as much as I do now." Mike tapped a few buttons on his PADD and sent the ship assignments to everyone listed, then he smirked. "Let's go make history, again."
