Mission: Episode 120 - Guardian at the Gate
Location: USS Essex Bridge
Timeline: Current

The conduit shimmered on the viewscreen, its edges pulsing with faint energy—like a scar in space, stitched by forces no one fully trusted. Just beyond it, the Borg vessel hovered, silent and still. Watching. Waiting.

Admiral Deela T’Lar stood at the tactical console, her posture composed, her gaze unwavering. She keyed in a command. “Helm, bring us five thousand kilometers closer to the Borg ship. Keep us outside the conduit’s gravitational threshold.”

The Essex shifted, engines humming low. The crew moved with quiet precision, but the tension was unmistakable. No one spoke it aloud, but the proximity to the Borg vessel—and the conduit—was enough to stir unease.

Deela didn’t acknowledge it. She understood it. The Essex was too small to enter the conduit, and no other ships nearby had the capability either. That wasn’t the point.

She folded her arms, eyes locked on the Borg ship’s silhouette.

“She says she’s concerned for the lost vessel. Fine. Let her show it.”

Her voice was calm, deliberate. Not accusatory. Not confrontational. Just present.
Behind her, the crew continued their work. Quiet. Focused. A little nervous. But they trusted her more than they feared the Borg.

And that was enough.
