Mission: Episode 120 - Guardian at the Gate
Location: USS Pegasus-C
Timeline: Current

ON:

The task force from Starbase 400 had departed a few hours before. The ships were in a standard formation with the Pegasus in the middle. So far, the trip had been uneventful.

Sitting in his Ready Room, Mike was reading over the reports from the initial encounter with Jurati's Borg and the Conduit's creation. He also took time to read over classified reports from the Gladiator's mission and final contact. The more and more he looked at everything, he knew and ship was going to have to attempt to pass through, however he was hoping the data recovered from the 'transponder probe', as Sullivan's idea had been called, would not only help them navigate the conduit but ensure communications when the inevitable happened and a ship had to traverse it.

"Contact with the Gladiator was lost 2 hours after it entered the rift" is what Sevlek told Mike when they spoke earlier. Was that due to distance and interference with the conduit? If so, the 'transponder probe' would certainly help. If the Gladiator ran into trouble that soon after exiting the far side of the conduit...that would be a whole different story. And just where did the conduit exit anyway? So many questions needed to be answered.

"Captain Zandusky was tasked with gathering as much information as possible within half a light year of the opposite traversal point." More from Sevlek's briefing. Mike knew Zandusky was a capable officer and ship commander, and the Gladiator was a hell of a ship. Staying within a half a light year meant the ship should have been close...very close to traversal point Mike continued to think.

Mike typed up some notes and sent them to Draven to look over and cross-reference with anything else Starfleet Intel had or received from Jurati's Borg.

Stepping our of his Ready Room, Mike walked onto the Bridge of the Pegasus. He looked at the viewscreen and could see the Lexington, Visionary, Repulse, George Washington, and Adventurer in formation in front of the Pegasus. The holo-graphic overlay of the viewer displaced each ship's name, NCC number, and class as well as brief tactical data such as distance away from the Pegasus as well as their flight path relative to the Pegasus's.

Mike saw K'Wor sitting at Tactical with Christopher standing beside him looking over the displays. Mike stopped at the Intel position, which was right outside of his Ready Room.

"Before you ask, no, the Guardian Borg hasn't picked up anything new. No signals and thankfully no radiation spikes. I'm looking through SFI's information now...from sensor scans to reports from ship commanders that have been assigned to the 'Gate', nothing helpful so far." Draven explained.

Mike smirked, "Thanks, keep me posted."

Mike then walked up the ramp to Tactical to check in on his sons.

"He's got a knack for this already." K'Wor said with a smile.

Christopher smiled and shrugged, "I grew up around starships."

Mike smiled. "If Starfleet is something you want a career in, you're at the age you need to be submitting applications and finding a sponsor....but your grades and discipline will play a part."

"I know." Christopher replied. "I have my application filled out, but I'm not sure who to ask to sponsor me. I know I could ask you or K'Temoc or even Admiral T'Lar but I want someone that's not family or part of 400's staff."

Lieutenant Toretto at Mission Ops looked back at the conversation.

"I respect that, just remember whoever you ask had to be of command grade." Mike replied.

"And my grades aren't bad, I have As and Bs in almost everything." Christopher added.

"Bs won't cut it." K'Wor chimed in.

Christopher looked dejected for a moment.

"He's right, however if you have the right attitude and aptitude they'll over look a few Bs." Mike replied.

"And that goes back to my attitude and discipline. I told you, those fights weren't started by me, I was defending people or myself." Christopher explained.

"I know, and I sent what you told me to Ms. Sterling and Mr. K'badda. I can't ask them to remove it from your record but if they'll add in the fact you were standing up to a bully to protect younger and smaller students it'll show just cause." Mike explained.

"As long as the Board of Admissions sees it that way." Christopher replied with a concerned tone.

The conversation was broken when the port egress door opened and out stepped Tom Vercetti.

Mike patted Christopher on the shoulder before stepping over to Tom. "Mr. Vercetti, how can I help?"

"I've just been walking around the ship, first time I took the opportunity." Tom replied.

"She's a big ship." Mike said with a smirk.

"I also noticed the ship has a bar on deck ten." Tom said.

"Feeling nostalgic?" Mike asked.

Tom nodded. "Do you mind?"

Mike eyed Tom for a moment, then looked around the Bridge. "May I have everyone's attention...at the end of your shift, report to the ship's bar for a free round on Mister Vercetti."

Several officers smiled and talked among themselves while Chief Branson spoke up from Flight Control. "Thanks Tom, I'll see you at sixteen hundred."

Vercetti smiled, nodded to the Chief, then turned to exit the Bridge before looking back, "We need a name, 'The Bar' is too dull.
