Mission: Episode 119 - "Shattered Mirror"
Location: Deela's quarters
Timeline: MD3 Current

Deela heard that an away team was being assembled in Transporter Room 12. She had a few things to check on before leaving for the mirror universe. She checked on OPS and the progress that was being made for the takedown. She was eager to get going. She needed to stop Jack's doppelganger from going after them. She had a daughter to protect.

After checking on things, she wanted to spend the last hours with Raivyn. Alex let her know that she was taking Raivyn back to Deela's quarters. This would give Alex a break. When she walked in, Raivyn was holding a holograph. There was only one place she would have found it and that was in Brandon's room. She didn't realize that Brandon didn't take it with him when he left for the academy.

"Raivyn? You know better than snooping in your brother's room." Deela scolded her.

Raivyn glared at her, "I wasn't snooping. I was sitting in his room because I miss him and wanted to feel near him. I accidently bumped his dresser and this fell off. Why does he have a picture of that Jim guy that has been coming around?"

Deela sighed, not wanting to get into it but she was old enough to understand so she figured she'd explain it to her, "Sit down. I'll get us some ice cream and explain it to you."

Raivyn sat down and Deela brought her a sundae. She handed her a napkin and sat down next to her, "So, the reason he has that is because that is a picture of Brandon's father."

Raivyn looked at her strangely, "They guy is his father? I thought you said he died."

"I did and he did die." She needed to explain, "Jim, the guy who came over the other day, is what I call a doppelganger. A doppelganger, a double. He's from what we call the mirror universe."

"I thought the mirror universe was just one of those stories people tell to scare us." Her eyes widened, "You mean it's a real place?"

"Yes it is." Deela took a couple of bites of her sundae, "Way back in the days when Admiral Kirk was a captain of the USS Enterprise. They were on a mission to persuade the Halkan Council to allow the Federation to mine dilithium crystals on their planet. Kirk, along with Dr. McCoy, Scotty and Uhura were beaming back during an ion storm. When they did, something went wrong and they found themselves facing Spock who was now wearing a mustache and goatee. Then things started to get weirder. Spock orders the bridge crew to prepare a phaser barrage on the Halkans for their refusal to cooperate. Kirk said that they had what they call an agonizer and tortured the transporter technician for a mistake, not his own. Kirk orders the landing party to sick bay so that they can assess their predicament in private. He deduces that the ion storm must have opened a barrier between parallel universes, causing the landing parties in each universe to switch places. They decide to impersonate their counterparts until they can find a way home."

Raivyn chimed in, "They sound like they're really bad people."

"You could say that. They move up in rank by assassination. In fact, the mirror Checkov tried to kill Kirk."

Raivyn was hooked, "Did they hurt the Halkans?"

"No. Kirk couldn't let that happen. Kirk orders a twelve-hour delay. Spock reports it to Starfleet. He's ordered to kill him and take command unless Kirk carries out their mission within four hours. Dr. McCoy and Mr. Scott work on the transporter and Uhura goes to the bridge to keep Sulu from seeing his control panel."

Raivyn was listening intently to her story, "Did it work?"

"Actually, it did." Deela continued, "Anyway, Kirk meets a woman named Marlena, where he learns that there is a device known as the Tantalus Field. She was going to use it on Spock but he wouldn't let her. Anyway, fast forward, Spock, after he asks the computer about the "classified research" being conducted in Engineering, is suspicious and confronts Kirk. He takes him to Sickbay where DR. McCoy, Uhura, and Mr. Scott are. A fight breaks out and Spock gets knocked out. They need to get to the transporter before their time is up and McCoy sticks around, wanting to help Spock. The others get ready to leave and that's when Sulu shows up with some reinforcements. Sulu informs Kirk that he is going to kill him and make it look like Spock and Kirk killed each other. But Marlena, while in Kirk's quarters, uses the weapon and vaporizes everyone but Sulu. Kirk renders him unconscious and they all leave except Dr. McCoy for the transporter room. Spock regains consciousness and forces Dr. McCoy in a mind meld to learn why the captain spared his life. They all make it to the transporter room but they have to wait for the doctor but their time is running out. Marlena is waiting for them with phaser in hand, wanting to go back with them but they can't because the transporter is only set up for four people. Uhura gets the phaser away from her and turns it on her. They discover that the transporter power has been cut. McCoy isn't there yet and they need to leave, maybe without him. Spock shows up with McCoy and agrees to let them go because he needs his people back. Spock takes control of the transporter controls and beams them off but not before Kirk gives some advice to Spock. He says that he'll consider it. They make the transfer and the rest is history."

Raivyn smiled, "What happened to that Marlena person?"

Deela smiled, "I don't know. All the records say is that she stayed on her ship. Being a parallel universe, there probably was one in our universe as well."

"Wow, that's amazing. So, if there is a mirror universe, does that mean there could be one of me?" Raivyn couldn't imagine there being another her.

"I don't know. Maybe."

Raivyn cocked her head to the side, "What about you?"

"There was. I heard that she died but there is no proof." She warned her, "Those people there are dangerous. Spock says that they are 'brutal, savage, unprincipled, uncivilized, and treacherous'. They are opposites of us. They are not nice people. Jack was kidnapped by his but was able to escape. Because they way they are, we are going there to take care of some things. So, this is why you are staying with Alex. I need you safe."

"Now I get it. But Jim seems nice."

"He is, sometimes. And the only reason he doesn't treat me meanly is because he feels obligated to me. I trust him but only to a certain point. If there is something that he wants, he'll go for it no matter the cost."

"I understand." Raivyn is a very smart girl with a high IQ.

"Good." Deela ate some more ice cream that was a little melted now. They finished their ice cream in silence.

"That was good." She got up and put her bowl away and then came back, "I probably should go put this back." She left with the holograph and then returned, "Do you have any other stories like that?"

"Well, there is a few other stories about Kirk. He had a lot of great adventures in his lifetime. Unfortunately, he died a lonely death. He's actually a legend these days."

"Spock too?" Raivyn asked.

"I guess you could say that. He served with Kirk for a long time. My dad actually met him once."

"That must have been exciting for him." She thought for a moment, "Oh, wait, he's Vulcan. He doesn't get excited about thing like that."

"No he doesn't. But that is the Vulcan way." Deela kind of strayed away from his teachings.

"So, another story of Kirk's adventures?" Raivyn enjoyed listening to her mother.

"Okay. Here's a fun one that you might enjoy. It's about Kirk's first experience with Tribbles." She smiled as she told her the story. Afterwards, Deela took Raivyn back to Alex's place. It was back to work and getting ready for the trip to the mirror universe. Hopefully, their plan will work out.
