340 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: Infirmary

Rachael looked at Brislan “Ready?”

Tressa looked up at the CMO as the first casualties began to materialize in front of them. The corpsmen shielded their eyes against the bright Sickbay lights as the doctors and nurses moved in.

"Let's get him up here," Tressa said to a young medic, helping him with an unconscious older man. They settled him on a biobed and the doctor began running scans.

"Dr. King, we're going to need more beds," she said as a second group materialized in front of them.

Rachael remember those days when Tressa was only a nurse. How those days have changed. Rachael called for more beds and started helping the wounded as they came in. She started going over the inujuries and took everyone as they came in. Each injury was assessed as they came in and then directed to the part of the infirmary they needed to be based off severity. It was probably an hour or so that had gone by. Rachael looked to Tressa. "How are you holding up doctor," Rachael asked Tressa.

Tressa sighed, pulling a cover over the young Andorian who had just died in his comrade's arms.

"I don't know yet, Doctor King," she said softly. "This man is the second to have died, I have three wounded on life-support that are too weak to survive surgery, and two in pre-op. Those are the worst injuries, everyone else is getting stitched up in triage.

"Sound good to me," said Rachael. "Carry on."

Rachael knew all to well this side of starfleet and medical was not easy but they managed to get through.

"Yes, Doctor," Tressa said. She looked into the tired eyes of the CMO, who was also her friend. "Do you want me with you when you brief Admiral Bremer?" she asked.

"No. I think this is something I should take care of myself."

"Why don't you grab a cup of coffee and something to eat, I'm going to do rounds," Tressa said. "I'll keep you updated."

"Thank you," said Rachael
