Mission:
Episode 112 - A Trip to Remember
Location: SS Teneran - In severe distress
Timeline: Current
Another explosion aboard the Teneran caused further damage to the already crippled ship. Still unknown to Vox, his ship was a ticking time bomb as the quantum resonance of the filament had caused a polarity shift in the ship's antimatter containment fields. which were now progressively deteriorating and it was now only a matter of time before the field would collapse and the ship would explode.
The violent shake from the most recent blast shook Vox where he came around from a semi-conscious state. He looked around in the darkness, only lit by the pulsing red alert strip lighting. He crawled down the corridor. Touching the panel at the end, and finding it was a normal temperature, so it mean there was no fire behind it, he released it and attempted to climb through. He was attempting to reach any of the escape pods but the darkness made this difficult.
He crawled through the tube till he got a junction. If could get up to the upper level, he might be able to get a pod. He was somewhat disorientated and finding it hard to breath. He began the climb the ladder but as he got halfway up, he suddenly found he was experiencing vertigo. He tired to hold still on the ladder but he lost his footing and came crashing back down to the tube below. He was now in a heap and unconscious.
We can now see outside the Teneran which was in a bad way. She had numerous scorch marks across her hull, a breach on her port side encompassing most of her 4 decks and her port nacelle was badly damaged and powerless.
Just then, the USS Rotorua dropped out of warp.
They scanned the ship.
"Captain, we have one lifeform aboard, very faint and our readings also indicate that the ship's containment fields are collapsing and there is nothing to stop it. I estimate the ship will destroy itself in less then 5 minutes." an officer arrived.
The captain taps her console. "Bridge to sickbay, prepare for an injured person. " She turned to the officer. " Beam the person directly to sickbay and once done, get us away from the ship before it blows.
"Aye Captain."
We see Vox enveloped by the transporter beam as he is rescued by the USS Rotorua. He rematerialises in the brightly lit sickbay.
The USS Rotorua comes around and warps out of the area. Not long after she disappeared in a small distant flash, SS Teneran is rocked by a massive blast tearing her apart.
.... Sick Bay USS Rotorua ....
Vox was now on a biobed. His life signs extremely weak and fading fast. The doctor and her team did everything they could but Raekwon died. They managed to put the Vox symbiont into into status but they knew all too well that they had to get it Trill fast. The captain was advised of the situation who promptly ordered the USS Rotorua to Trill, at maximum speed.
4 hours later.....
Ensign Deezell Timurs was enjoying a relaxing drink in the messhall. She had heard about the rescue of Raekwon and his sad passing and that they were heading back to Trill. Little did she know, her life was about to be turned upside down. She took a last sip of her drink when the captain summoned her to her ready room. She physically gulped when she got the call, what had she done to warrant this. Soon she stood nervously outside the ready room. She pressed the chime and was called inside.
"At ease Ensign." the captain advised. " You are probably aware of the rescue of a gentleman by the name of Raekwon Vox a few hours ago and that sadly he passed away. However, Raekwon was a joined Trill to the symbiont known as Vox. Up until now the condition of the symbiont was stable but things have taken a turn for the worse and Doctor Caswell fears the symbiont wont survive by the time we get to Trill. You are the only Trill onboard the Rotorua and I am aware you have not, as yet considered putting yourself up for the initiate programme. However, as you know, the Symbiosis Commission has stated to us clearly that we must do all we can to ensure the survival of the symbiont. So you probably know what I am about to ask you." The captain paused.
Deezell nodded. "I do have an interest in being joined but I chose to get my career off the ground first but I guess I am going to be brave and try to juggle both. I have had no training so I am going into this, although willingly, but somewhat unprepared. " she added.
"I am hopeful Ensign that once we arrive at Trill, you will be to get some kind of help as once joined and by the time we get to Trill, the process is irreversible in that doing so would kill both host and symbiont." the captain commented.
Deezell just nodded "I guess I am as ready as I will ever be" she replied. The captain came around to her and put a hand on her shoulder. "I will help you where I can and I do suggest you speak to our Counsellor once you have come around from the procedure. " she added.
The next time we see the young face of Deezell, she is slowly waking up from the procedure. Only now she is Deezell Vox with the knowledge, memories and experiences of Lerani, Azrel, Torbin, Jorran, and Raekwon.
Once the Rotorua arrived at the Trill Homeworld, Deezell was given a leave of absence to allow her time to adjust to her new circumstances. After a month of help, advice and counselling from the team at the Symbiosis Commission, she felt she was ready to head to her first deep space assignment, aboard Starbase 400.
