Anna rang the buzzer on Sarah’s door and waited for her to answer. She was going shopping and she wanted some company and Zeke wasn’t her choice for this adventure. Besides, he had a busy schedule today and couldn’t have gone anyway.
Sarah answered the door and smiled. “Anna, come on in!” She moved out of the way to let her in.
“I wondered if you were available to go shopping with me?” Anna asked her. “Zeke is busy and I wanted to see if we could find a dress for me to wear for our wedding.”
A smile spread across Sarah’s face. “You two are finally going to do it!” She hugged Anna. “I am so happy for both of you!” She laughed. “Wait until the others know!” Sarah looked at her. “Is this a secret?”
“I’d appreciate it if you’d keep it between us,” Anna said. “Until Zeke and I let everyone know the date. It isn’t going to be a big affair, just our crew and we’re getting married on the Falcon.”
No
“I think that was what I would want,” Sarah said. “Or maybe to elope with just witnesses.”
“You and Sam getting serious?” Anna asked her as Sarah got ready to leave.
“I love him,” Sarah said with a smile. “And he loves me but marriage isn’t anything we have talked about yet. We’re just enjoying being together, you know what I mean?”
“I do,” Anna nodded. “Zeke and I waited until we knew the time was right for us. At one point we discussed a big wedding but I think it was more each of us wanting to make the other happy and misunderstanding because when it came down to it we both confessed we wanted something small and intimate with those we are closest to, our crew.” Anna smiled. “Which is also our family.”
“That’s how I feel too,” Sarah smiled. “I’m ready when you are.” She locked up her quarters and they headed off. “Do you have any idea of what you want to wear?”
“No,” Anna shook her head. “I am struggling with whether I want to wear white or a different color.” She smiled. “I have this feeling I will know the dress when I see if and I am not settling with anything but the perfect one.”
“Good thing I am going with you,” Sarah grinned. “This could take all day!”
After a long morning of shopping, Sarah and Anna ended up having lunch at one of their favorite places. Afte they ordered, Anna took a drink from her glass and looked at Sarah.
“That was successful,” Anna said with a smile. “I found my dress and we even got one for you to wear to the wedding.”
“I can’t believe you bought that dress for me,” Sarah shook her head. “I had something I could wear.”
“I had a hidden motive.” Anna said with a grin. “Zeke and I want you to stand up for us and be a witness.” She smiled at the look of shock on Sarah’s face. “Well as my maid of honor but we’re not doing all the pomp and circumstance. I would need your help getting ready and then to sign as my witness.”
Sarah blinked away happy tears. “Damn it, Anna! You know I hate to cry!” She smiled widely. “I would be honored to be a part of your special day.”
Anna smiled back at her. “I am just happy you will do it. You are close to both Zeke and I, as our friend and his first officer. Really, to us it is as if you are standing up for both of us, we made the decision together.”
Sarah waved their waiter over and ordered a bottle of wine. “We have to celebrate!” She smiled then. “For a moment I wished the others were here but it is nice to have some time for just us.”
“I have become so excited,” Anna grinned. “Don’t you tell Zeke this but the other day I laid on our bed and practiced out loud saying, ‘Anna Bagwell’.” She laughed then. “I really like the sound of it!”
Sarah grinned. “It won’t be long after and you two will be expecting that baby you have always wanted. I have a good feeling about this. You two have always done things in your own time and once you are married I know it will happen.”
“Part of the problem was my worrying,” Anna said with a smile. “I was stressing myself out over not being pregnant. Zeke and I have decided that what is meant to be will.” She smiled then. “And if we really want a baby and it doesn’t happen for us there are other ways to have one.”
“I am scared of the thought of children,” Sarah said with a nervous laugh. “I mean a part of me wants one but another part is nervous I’ll be a bad parent. But then I look at Sam and I want a mini him.” She spoke quickly. “Not anytime soon I mean, Sam and I are happy where we see right now.”
“Dustin and Aubrey are getting pretty cozy too,” Anna murmured.
“They help us when we are on a mission,” Sarah said with a sigh.
“Speaking of missions,” Anna said, concern in her voice. “Are you okay after the last one?”
Sarah looked at her for a long moment. “I am. We did a good job. I am still bothered by why it was so easy to go in and out, their lack of security was almost too stupid but I have accepted it and I am moving on. My team did an excellent job.”
“I am glad,” Anna sighed in relief. “Those things are not always the easiest to come down from. If you ever need to talk I would hope you would.”
“Yes,” Sarah nodded. “It is what Zeke and I would order the crew to do and I have always felt I would never ask the crew to do something that I wouldn’t.”
“That is a good quality,” Anna nodded. She looked up as their bottle of wine was delivered, watching as Sarah poured them each a glass.
“Congratulations on setting a date,” Sarah said. “May my sister form another mister have a long and happy marriage.”
They took a drink from their glasses and enjoyed their lunch as the scene fades.
