Mission: Episode 107 – Recovery
Location: Starbase 400, Ops
Timeline: MD3, 0845hrs

ON:

Mike was in Ops looking over a PADD. Damage control teams had finally been able to board the hulk of the Pegasus-B now that fires were finally out. Their report said there was little to no hope for the proud ship. She was being towed, slowly, to Starbase 400 where, when time allowed, a more comprehensive inspection would be completed.

Starfleet Command approved the name change of the USS Juno to USS Ark Royal and the Vesta class ship was also docked at Starbase 400 undergoing repairs of her own. The new Athena class USS Endeavour would take a little more time to arrive, but would be here within the 'next few weeks' after final commissioning. The new USS Saratoga would also take a while to arrive. An Akira class ship was named, but it was still in it's final fitting out at Xavier Fleet Yards. Starbase 400 was shorthanded in support ships and they would have to make due.

Starbase 400 itself was getting back to normal, and quickly. Even civilians were returning. Mike had been surprised by Lwazanda Ral's return most of all. She could be a little...a lot...flamboyant, but having her back on the Station was a welcome sight.

Kaleb IV was far better off than anyone had expected. Short of food, but they were never attacked or fired on. That was a relief since so many residence had refused to leave.

Most of the combined fleet was still in the vicinity of the Kaleb System, patrolling the border, making repairs, crews resting. Mike looked out of one of the overhead windows in Ops and watching the USS Enterprise-E drift by with a Defiant class ship close beside.

As he looked back at his PADD he heard one of the turbolift doors open. Captain Worf stepped out followed by K'Temoc and another man Mike hadn't expected to see, William T. Riker.

Mike motioned toward his Office and the four men walked in to talk.

"A Starfleet relief force has arrived, twenty-one ships. The USS Warrior is among them." Worf reported. "Starfleet Command has ordered me to reassume command."

Mike was a little surprised. Worf had commanded the Enterprise-E superbly in battle. The Mike looked at Will. "Finally taking command of the Enterprise?" Mike said with a smile.

"No." Riker replied with his typical smile. "Actually, as soon as this war is over I'll be joining the rest of the family on Nepenthe. Thad has taken ill and we're hoping Nepenthe's regenerative properties, which promoted plant growth and healing, will help him."

"Is there a treatment?" K'Temoc asked, concerned.

"Thad was diagnosed with mendaxic neurosclerosis. It's a very rare disease caused by a silicon-based virus. It's fatal if not treated, which could theoretically be accomplished by culturing infected cells in an active positronic matrix, but with the ban on synths." Riker trailed off.

"I'm sorry Will." Mike said sincerely.

"We're not giving up." Riker replied, flashing a smile. "Speaking of not giving up, I'm sorry to hear about the Pegasus. She was a proud ship."

Mike nodded, "Thank you." Losing a ship, and knowing your son had a terminal illness were night and day different in severity, even in a time of war. Mike wasn't sure what else to say in the moment. "I'm sure they'll build another when this war is over."

"I know of a ship in need of a Commanding Officer." Riker said as he glanced at Worf.

"It would be the logical choice." Worf added.

"I'm sure I can find a ship when the time comes" Mike replied.

"Well, there is a ship in orbit of the Station needing a commander." K'Temoc replied.

"Computer, transfer all command codes of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-E, to Fleet Admiral Mike K'Wor Bremer. Authorization Worf-37-Gamma-Echo."

"Command Codes transferred." The computer replied.

"She's just on loan until the war is over, so take care of the old girl." Riker added with a smile.

"It's a promise." Mike replied as he shook Riker's hand. Even at this stage of his career, this was an amazing honor.

"Well, I need to get back to the Titan and return to Starbase 247. Starfleet is planning an offensive against the Gorn to try and take some pressure off the Klingons. Starfleet believes if they can neutralize Ss'Kar Station it will force the Gorn forces in both the Alpha and Beta Quadrants to pull back to protect their core worlds." Riker explained.

"The Warrior has been assigned to Admiral Riker's task force for the operation." Worf added. "My wing will be departing now as well."

Mike then shook Worf's hand, "vaj ghob, Qapla'"

Worf and Riker shook K'Temoc's hand as well before leaving Mike's Office to beam to their ships.

"Captain of the Enterprise, eh?" K'Temoc said with a smile.

"Temporary." Mike replied.

"Still, how many people in Starfleet have been able to add that to their resume?" K'Temoc replied.

Several minutes later, Mike had beamed over to the Enterprise-E. It wasn't his first time aboard the famous ship, wasn't his first time stepping onto the Bridge, or even stepping onto the Bridge as a member of the ship's crew. However this time, it was a much different feeling.

As repair teams and crewmembers walked around doing various tasks Mike quietly walked to the Captain's Chair. He ran his hand along the back for a moment, almost feeling Picard's, Riker's, and Worf's presence there. After a moment he finally took a seat and looked around.
