With her arm sorted Kah'lyn walked with Vito to go and meet Admiral Bremer once again. She was expecting to go to the bridge but she was surprised to be heading away from the bridge and towards the holodeck. "Aren't we meeting the Afmiral in his ready room?" She looked at Vito curiously.
"No, he's in Holodeck Five working out some frustrations." Vito replied.
As they arrived at the holodeck she looked at Vito before taking a deep breath and walking inside. She wasn't surprised to find Bremer working out his stresses. She stood to attention with her arms behind her back as she looked towards him. "Permission to join you Admiral?"
Mike slashed from high right to lower left with his mek'leth and dispatched the holo-combatant he was fighting. Mike then turned to see Kah'lyn with Vito standing behind her by the door. Mike had ignored the Romulan woman for the last month, since meeting her. He's allowed her to stay on board since she had helped Tom and Vito, and since her Starfleet Records had checked out.
Mike motioned to a small wooden display stand with several weapons, Klingons and others, allowing her to choose a weapon to use. He had a lot on his mind. His daughter, his sons, Starbase 400, the people of Kaleb IV, the multi-millions of casualties, his wife...
"Thank you Sir" Kah'lyn walked over to the display stand and studied the weapons before choosing a Bat'leth. She turned to Bremer, "Ready when you are Sir."
"Defend yourself." Mike said coldly as he stepped forward with a downward thrust, a basic move.
Kah'lyn was expecting that move as she raised the Bat'leth to block the downward motion of his thrust. She wasn't a novice with the Klingon weapon, she'd handled it a lot of times before when sparring against holographic opponents. "I may look like ... a mere weak female Sir but I'm no stranger to using this!"
Mike smirked. He attacked again, this time left to right slash with both arm, then back right to left. As his mek'leth connected with her bat'leth, Mike turned his weapons so they locked together, and with a twist of his mek'leth he disarmed the young woman as the bet'leth fell to the ground.
Kah'lyn wasn't surprised that she was so easily disarmed, Bremer was part Klingon and no doubt had a lifetime of experience behind him compared to her few years of using the Bat'leth as a hobby.
Mike paused a moment, "Pick it up." As she did Mike put the weapons back together and inner-locked them. "As the blade turns release your primary hand and turn your wrist, grasp again and allow the weapons to turn. The bat'leth is bigger, even against a bigger opponent you have leverage, as your primary hand is reapplied you'll be able to continue the turn and he'll have to disengage or he'll be disarmed."
Kah'lyn nodded. Picking up the Bat'leth she readied herself for another round taking onboard the advice he'd just given her. "So I take it I've earned some trust this past month Sir?"
"One step at a time." Mike replied. He was trying, but didn't want to be pushed.
Vito had been watching from beside the door. He never learned how to use a bat'leth or any Klingon weapon. If disarmed, brute force was his typical plan. He used a baton from time to time, a knife if he had one. He watched Bremer and Kah'lyn, their moves, soaking in the lesson.
One Kah'lyn seemed to have learned the simple technique, Mike eyed her for a moment. "Computer, two Reman Commandos, bladed weapons and hand to hand combat only. Begin."
Mike looked over at the woman to see what she would do before looking at the Reman before him. Remans used knifes in close quarters combat. Large jackal knifes slighter smaller that Bremer's mek'leth, and smaller shadow knifes concealed as a backup. A bat'leth could reach out further to wound or kill, but a well trained Reman Commando knew how to parry the first strike and get in close where a bigger bat'leth could be a disadvantage.
Remans were new to Kah'lyn she'd heard of them but never faced off against one before, it didn't help that she'd hadn't used her arm for exercise in the last month after injuring it. As her opponent made his move she made hers, trying to strike first which the Reman was ready for. Moments later the computer declared her opponent the winner, having struck with deadly accuracy with his blade against her. "Dammit!!" She stepped back rubbing her arm, clearly annoyed with herself for having failed.
Mike took a breath. "When facing an enemy with a smaller weapon, you have to keep moving. If you take a step back it will allow you to extend your arms and keep the enemy out of his weapon's reach. Keep the blade moving." Mike took the bat'leth from the woman and slowly swung it back and forward in his hands smoothly. "Most Klingons would use their d'k taghs in this type of fight, but you have to be ready in case you're not armed with one or with a Starfleet baton."
Mike handed the bat'leth back. He could see she was frustrated and possibly sore the way she rubbed her arm. "That is enough for today. Tomorrow, you will practice what I showed you and we will meet again the day after for another lesson."
Kah'lyn nodded "Yes Sir" She looked at Bremer curiously. "I take it you've decided I'm not so bad after all Admiral?"
"THAT is to be determined." Mike said coldly. He collected his things and left the holodeck.
"It's a good sign kid." Vito said from the shadows near the door. "He also didn't kill you, so that's good too." Vito smirked.
"Would he have killed me?" Kah'lyn looked at Vito curiously. "Is he that kind of man?"
Vito smirked. He didn't answer the question. If Kah'lyn wanted to know Bremer, she had to know him on her terms, not his perception. "Come on, let's get something to drink...and you need a shower."
Kah’lyn grinned. “Of that I've no doubt. So where do you plan get this drink?”
"I know a guy." Vito said.
