Episode 102 - The Rising Tide of War
Location: Personal Quarters
Timeline: MD2 0630 hours
With her untouched breakfast cooling on the table, Aria Davis stood in front of the mirror as she slipped the last hair clip into place and tugged on the sleeves of her uniform. It never seemed to fit right, the collar a tad too tight and she was certain someone had messed with the measurements for her uniform because the trouser legs were at least three inches two long.
Or maybe she was shrinking...
No. That was highly unlikely. A more likely reason was Dominic Gray and his tendency to pull pranks when he lost a bed. If he had put all that time and effort into finals then maybe he’d have stayed on Admiral Mitchell’s good side and not been assigned to some backwater colony. Everyone did warn him that the cat was not a good idea -
“Focus, Aria,” she chided her reflection. Taking a deep breath she rolled her shoulders and tried to quell the butterflies in her stomach.
First day nerves. That’s all it was. Nothing to worry about. Unless she made a wrong diagnosis, miscalculated a dose or just outright killed a patient. Oh God, it was like her first day as a cadet all over again.
Breath. In. And out. In... and out. Closing her eyes she kept up the breathing exercise until finally it didn't feel like her heart was about to explode out of her chest anymore. She had nothing to worry about. Her test scores were exceptional, she knew what she was doing, she just had to have confidence in herself. But not too much. Oh no! That was a recipe for disaster. Nope, she needed just the right amount of confidence.
She could work on that.
Her alarm chirped, signalling that it was time. She was going to be early but she wanted to stop by the promenade - avoiding the chaos she had helped create last night - and find some good coffee. After that, well, she hoped it would be a completely forgettable first day.
