Pegasus, Laffey, Avenger, Tirpitz, and Alabama all dropped out of warp as they entered the Kalab system. As they approached Starbase 400, the USS Sutherland passed them by as she headed out on patrol duty.
Over the comm, "Pegasus to Starbase 400, requesting permission to dock" Mike let out a breath after hailing the station, it was nice to be home after the stresses of the last few weeks.
"Permission granted, welcome home." The warm reply came from a female officer in Ops, Mike couldn't remember her name. It bothered him that he couldn't, he took pride in knowing his crew...he knew he was still mentally drained.
Mike looked at Ensign Driggett at Conn, "Ensign, lock on."
"Aye sir." Driggett replied as he tapped out some commands, "Starbase 400 has control sir."
Mike nodded, then replied to the station, "Starbase 400, you have control."
"Confirmed Pegasus, enjoy the ride in." The reply came from SB400's Ops.
Mike leaned back in his chair, as did everyone else on the Bridge as the Pegasus slowly slide her way though the starbase's space doors. As she eased into her docking port and was connected to the station by gravitational and umbilical supports, Mike stood up as the rest of the Bridge crew secured their stations.
"Get some rest, good work out there." He looked around at everyone on the Bridge, making eye contact with every member of the Bridge crew. "Dismissed."
Mike waited until everyone left the Bridge, wanted to be the last off the ship before repair teams came aboard to do any repairs and general up-keep that the ship needed. Everyone left the Bridge, except for Mike's son.
"How are you feeling?"
"Better, my shoulder is still a little stiff." The young man answered.
"It's to be expected." Mike paused, "I wanted to tell you, you did well. I know you didn't get a chance to take the Academy Entrance Exam, but I talked with Admissions and they will be hosting the exam again in six months and they will hold you slot for you til then."
K'Wor smiled, "Thanks dad."
Mike patted his son on the back as they left the Bridge together.
K'Temoc entered his quarters and headed straight for the bed. He fell onto it and let out a sigh as he relaxed. Even though he had been able to get a little rest on the way back to the station, he was still tired like everyone else.
Mike had a hard job to do, explaining to his smallest children that their mother wouldn't be home for a while. He knew that Marc and Emma wouldn't understand what was going on, so he explained to them that Janice simply had to stay at work longer. Marc took it well, Emma on the other hand seemed upset and Mike scooped her up in his arms, took a seat in a rocking chair, and just rocked her for a while until she was ready to get up and play some more.
Mike's oldest daughter, Becca, also came in and said she would help with her younger siblings as needed, and her father thanked her. Becca was also studying for the Academy exam and was scheduled to take her test the same time K'Wor was now. Mike had debated letting her work in the Infirmary to get some experience, since she wanted to be a Starfleet MD, but he just hadn't offered it yet. He decided that within the next few days, he would tell her and see if she was interested, but not today. Today, they all needed to rest.
Mike left his quarters and headed for Ops and his Office there. Once he arrived he looked over the latest intel reports, saw where the closest Starships were, then laid back on the sofa in his office for a quick nap.
