Mission:
Episode 98 - A Raid on Peace
Location: Starbase 400, Crew Quarters
Timeline: 1500 hours
ON:
Isaiah entered his new quarters on the Starbase. He’d been here for one hour exactly. He tossed aside his carry bag and started by verifying that all his crates had been moved to his quarters. The Ops department was efficient and all was there. He had to smile as he viewed the crates. His wife was a planner, she was a colour coder, and all was colour coded so he knew exactly what each bin held and where it belonged.
Sighing he got to work. He knew that he had a couple of days to settle in before he was officially on duty but there was so much to do and see he started with the task that he hated the most, unpacking.
He hauled the first crate into the bedroom. There he unpacked his clothing and hung it in the closet feeling rather sad that his quarters were smaller than they should be. His wife was assigned to a ship that was quite far and he would be alone. He didn’t relish the thought. T’Mira had been as vital for him as the air he pulled into his lungs. This would be a rough transition for them both. What would make it easier for him was that his brother in law was here and now his new sister in law. His cousin in law…they were family sort of and then there was his half-brother.
It would sure be an interesting start. Sighing he finished unpacking his shoes and a few other items such as a picture for the bedside of him and T’Mira at their wedding, the latest book he was reading and a few other comfort items.
He then moved on the green bin what was clearly for the bathroom, smaller than all the others it only held his toiletries and a few homey items that he and T’Mira had picked up. He smiled as he walked into the bathroom. T’Mira had requested a water shower knowing that he preferred it to the sonic ones that were now the standard.
He then unpacked the living room / dining room bins which consisted of a few throws and pillows, which his wife had picked out, and his beloved books that would fill the shelves that he’d insisted be put in by the small work station in his quarters. Those took the longest. Knowing his wife would make sure they were alphabetized by author he took the time to do this and each book he touched triggered a memory for him.
That all being done and the time having passed quickly he decided to grab food on the promenade. There was a variety of options to choose from and he settled on the classic Vulcan meal. It wasn’t much as he wasn’t starving but the warm soup hit its mark. As the day progressed he found himself wandering the promenade and soon found himself entering Mind, Body, and Soul Healing. He walked up to the friendly receptionist and said, “Hello. Is this the office of Doctor Sage?”
She smiled back at him, “It sure is. Doctor Sage is not available for the next few days but I’d be happy make an appointment for you for when she is back.”
He took the appointment for when she was slated to return and then headed out only to bump into someone.
He reached out a hand to steady the woman. “I’m so sorry I didn’t…” He noticed her green skin and teal uniform. “You wouldn’t by chance be Lieutenant Kalani Liora would you?”
Kalani had been running a few errands when something large and solid had smacked into her. She looked up at the tall man startled by the fact that he knew her. “I…I am.”
He smiled, “I’m Isaiah Nivar. T’Mira’s husband and H…”
“Oh my! Your my new brother!” She launched herself at him hugging him tight.
He was taken aback by her friendliness but her enthusiasm, he found, was infectious. He chuckled, “In a way…yes. Brother-in-law is the more correct term.”
She shrugged, “A brother by any other name is still a brother.”
He laughed. “I guess.” He could see why Hades had fallen for the woman. Not only was she extremely bubbly but she was quite sweet. He watched as she closed her eyes and scrunched up her nose. “Okay. Go ahead.”
He looked confused, “Go ahead what?”
She cracked an eye open making her look like a pirate, “You are half Bajoran. You’re going to do the ear pull thingy right?”
He threw back his head and laughed, “No…not necessarily.”
She sighed with relief. “Oh good.”
He couldn’t stop laughing. He knew that T’Mira and she would get along famously.
She smiled and laced her arm through his as if they’d known one another for years. “Well, I may be new but I can give you the sort of newbie tour!”
Smiling he let her lead him around the promenade. They chatted a while and promised to have breakfast together. He was under orders from Hades to watch out for her so running into her like this was a stroke of luck.
He decided to just kick back and enjoy the tour. Later he would go and meet with the XO and even see the ship that he’d been given. He had some unpacking to do there too.
