Mission:
Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Various Locations on USS Falcon
Timeline: MD 1, 1400 Hours
ON:
Zeke was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Captain DaSilvor. He knew if he impressed the Captain, he would be given the full green light to command as he saw fit. Captain DaSilvor was a mentor, and a command instructor, and he knew he could learn a lot from this man.
Zeke was at the airlock. He smiled as he saw the Captain approaching. He fixed his shirt, and made sure to stand up tall and proud. "Captain DaSilvor, the Falcon is ready for your inspection. " Said Zeke. He had spent the last few hours working with his department heads, to make sure each department was ready.
Andre nodded, "Thank you, Commander. It is a pleasure to be aboard." Silently Andre hated inspections, but they are necessary after all a clean ship is a good start.
"Would you like to start off down in engineering?" Asked Zeke? He wanted to get the tour out of the way, so they can take off and head to the Gorn Hegemony space. He was eager to start the mission, and so was his crew.
Andre smiled, "That will do as well as anywhere, Commander. The only thing I would ask is not to take too long. I will have plenty of time to observe your ship and crew once we get underway". Andre hoped he didn't sound as if he was rushing the commander, but he would much rather see the crew under normal operation than spend too much time in preset situations, like inspection tours.
"Understood sir, may I have one of my officers, take your belongings to your quarters?" Asked Zeke. As he motioned for one of the security guards in the room, to grab the Captain's gear.
"yes, of course", Andre handed the guard his bag
"Yes Sir, will do a quick tour of the Falcon, even though she is an interceptor class, she is very impressive. If you will follow me, Engineering is down a couple of decks." Started off Zeke, as he started to lead DaSilvor out of the transporter room.
Andre fell into step behind Bagwell as the pair of them walked towards the nearest turbolift.
Zeke started to talk about the technical specs of the Interceptor Class Starship, and comparing it to the Intrepid Class Starship. Several times he referred to the Falcon, as a compact intrepid design. But the cosmetic looks may have been similar, the two ships were completely different. They walked into Main Engineering.
"Captain DaSilvor meet Lieutenant Aubrey Miller my Chief Engineer." Said Zeke as he walked over to Aubrey.
Aubrey smiled as she turned around, thinking to herself, this better not take long. She had a tonne of things to do. "Hello Captain, do you have any questions, I may answer?" She asked with a big grin. She was trying to fake her enthusiasm for this inspection. She hated when people came down to her bay, and talked bad about her engine. She felt that she had a personal connection with her engine.
Andre shook his head, "Don't worry, if I have questions for you, I won't wait for an invite." He returned the smile, to keep the atmosphere light. He looked around the engineering section, everything seemed to be in good order. He walked away from the two officers to get a better look at the warp core itself. As always it was an awe inspiring sight. He walked back and nodded to the Lt. " See you again, Lieutenant". He looked at Zeke, "Whenever you are ready, Commander".
"Yes sir." Aubrey said, wondering what he meant by that comment? She was not sure, but she did not like the idea of uninvited guests in her engineering bay.
"Next will head to Sickbay." Zeke as they continued on their way tour. With a ship this small, it did not take very long to get from Engineering to Sickbay. Zeke walked in and noticed Anna, she had been waiting for them.
"Captain DaSilvor meet Chief Medical Officer Anna Woodhouse." Zeke said, trying to keep things professional. Anna looked very good today, he loved how she braided her hair, and she seemed to be beaming from head to toe.
"Hello Captain, your medical files have been transferred, we're good to go here, sir." She said with a chipper look on her face, and a positive warm vibe coming from her persona.
Andre nodded, "Thank you, Doctor. You look like you run a tight department here". As he spoke he looked around the Sickbay, there were a few staff running checks on equipment. It was good to see everything tidy but ready for action.
"Thank you sir, we do our best here. Being part of the SOG, we should always be prepared for a combat situation." Said Anna, as she walked over to the main bio bed. "We have integrated the latest starfleet technology. To include the Mark IV Medical holographic doctor." She said with a big grin. The new bio bed, was more sleep, and the interface terminal was thinner and did not make you feel like you were in a coffin.
Andre smiled at the reference to the Mark IV MHD, but seriously hoped it would never need to be used. With that he looked at the Doctor, "thank you, Doctor, I'm sure we will meet again during the mission. Commander Bagwell, When ever you are ready".
"Of Course sir." Said Zeke, as he lead the captain on the rest of the tour. They went up to several key areas, before Zeke brought him to his quarters. "The VIP Suite, for you sir. Sorry its not very big, but its the accommodations this ship provides." Said Zeke, as he walked inside with Captain DaSilvor.
Andre smiled, "It will do fine, Commander." He looked around the room, spotted his bag and added, "Besides, I will spend most of my time getting to know your crew. Before we go to the bridge to get underway, a thought for you to consider."
"What would that be sir?" Asked Zeke. He always appreciated advice. But in this case, he hoped it was positive. He hoped to hear Andre tell him he was doing good. Zeke stood there still, hoping to get some positive feedback, at this early stage.
Andre continued, "Earth history, World War one, the British navy. In peacetime the first officers job was to make sure the ship was immaculate and ready for any inspection. That was how the potential for promotion to captain was judged. If an officer couldn't keep his ship clean and tidy, how could he be a captain. The trouble is that a lot of senior officers promoted by that route had no idea how to handle their ship or ships in combat, and when world war one came along, they were worse than useless. So a clean ship is always a good thing, but don't let that stop you making sure your ship can handle combat, and anything else that space throws at you."
Zeke was relieved it was not negative. He smiled, as he responded. "The Falcon will be ready Sir, during our first training missions, we ran a series of combat effectiveness drills, the crew passed, I will have those reports transferred to you." Said Zeke as he went on to say, after taking a moment to allow what he said to sink in. "I know drills are not combat, however I am confident that my crew, will be able to get the job done." Said Zeke, trying not to sound to boastful.
Andre smiled at the younger officers reply, "Then lets get underway and get this mission sorted. I'm sure the Admiral will not want us sitting here for too long."
"Yes sir, I will let you get settled in, your permissions have been updated. You have feel reign of the ship, in order to do your inspections. I look forward to seeing your final report, and working with you on this mission. If I may take leave sir?" Asked Zeke, it was a little strange for him to be asking his instructor on his own ship, to leave. But it was protocol.
Andre nodded, "I may be senior in rank Commander, but you are running the ship. You do not need my permission to leave. I may question it if you are taking an action I believe unwise, or over rule you if your actions warrant it. But, I am here to observe, help and coach if I can. I'll see you on the bridge in about 5 five minutes".
"Understood Sir, I will see you in a few." Said Zeke, as he left the room, as the scene starts to fade.
