Mission: Episode 94 - Return to Rashanar
Location: Starbase 400 / USS Pegasus-B
Timeline: MD2 1015hrs

ON:

Mike sat in his office aboard Starbase 400 reading over the Luna’s mission report. He wasn’t happy Mörderin escaped, again. He was also update the failed mission had cost the life of a member of his crew in Stonebridge, as well as his undercover contacts from Starfleet Intelligence. Mike didn’t blame Pike or the crew aboard the Luna, they did everything by the book. The mission did go to show the level of security Mörderin had in place on Nimbus III, so that was something to build off of.

Mike filled a follow up report of his own and closed the file. He took a last sip of his raktijno and left his office. He had a date!

A few minutes later, Mike was aboard the USS Pegasus-B. The hum of the consoles on the bridge was a soothing sound. Commander Stark typed in a few last commands at the Engineering station. He’d overseen the ship’s final overhaul and repair work with Commander Solomon and most of the experienced engineers away from the station.

Lieutenant Commander Wayne sat at the Ops position. “Ship is fully powered up. All umbilical supports from the station have been disengaged. Docking clamps and gravitational supports are released, we’re hovering on ship’s power. The board shows green.”

Mike took a seat in the center chair. “Ops, this is the Pegasus requesting permission to depart.”

“Permission grated Admiral.” Came the reply, Mike didn’t recognize the voice.

“Chief…” Mike said out of habit, but Branson was off on the mission to the Boneyard. He looked at the Ensign sitting at Flight Control. “Ensign, ease us back, thrusters only.”

The big Galaxy Class Refit slowly backed away from her docking port and turned toward the giant space doors once she was clear.

“One quarter impulse, take us out.” Mike said with a smile. Gracefully the Pegasus-B slid out of the station’s bay and into space and moved away. “Full impulse, set a course toward…” Mike thought for a moment, “the Archanius system. Once we’re clear of the inner marker take us to warp five.”

While engineers and R&D personnel looked over the reading on their consoles, Sogh Varn at tactical spoke up, “The Ascension Class USS James H. Doolittle and the Olympic class USS Desmond Doss medical ship are still in orbit. There’s also two Loyalist Klingon vessels in orbit as well.”

Mike nodded, “We won’t be visiting, I just wanted to make sure we were in open space for this test flight.”

Moments later, the Pegasus shot off at warp. Her systems were humming and even though the tests were just starting Mike as please. It felt good to be in space again, to be in space aboard the Pegasus again.

“All engineering systems functioning normally.” Stark reported. “We’ll hold warp for a bit to monitor the core.”

After an hour, the Pegasus dropped out of warp and all systems were looked over. After everything was found to be in satisfactory levels, the Pegasus sped up and stop away at Slipstream. Like the warp flight, the Pegasus stayed at Slipstream for about an hour, dropped out, and all systems were looked over. After passing reviews again, the Pegasus returned to Slipsteam for a short thirty minute run back toward the Station, dropped out, and continued on at Warp Nine. Another hour later the ship dropped out of warp and came to a stop in space.

After a few moments, several target drones were launched from the Pegasus. A few moments later the Pegasus opened fire with her phasers, but there was a problem. Most of the phaser beams missed their targets. On the Bridge, Mike looked back at Varn.

The Klingon typed away at the Tactical console. “Phaser lock appears to be inoperative. Targeting sensors also seem to be out of alignment. I’ve attempted to compensate, but to no effect.”

Mike glanced at Stark, then told Varn to try torpedoes. The first salvo of photon torpedoes tracked to their targets and hit them with pin-point accuracy. Varn then fired another spread, this time instead of using the torpedoes’ internal sensors for target tracking the used the ship’s, but again the ship’s targeting was off. One torpedo even turned and headed back toward the Pegasus nearly missing the ship’s Bridge.

Mike stood up and walked to tactical and looked over everything. Varn was correct, there was clearly an issue with the ship’s tactical systems. “Ensign, take us back to the Station, warp eight.” Mike looked over at Stark again.

“Once we dock we’ll run full diagnostics on all tactical systems, sensors, the works. We’ll also re-upload the ship’s targeting software and run additional simulations.” Stark said.

Mike nodded, then returned to the center chair.

When the Pegasus docked about two hours later, Stark walked up to Bremer before he departed and handed him a PADD. “Our preliminary report of the test flight. All systems operated at or above expected levels, you know what the exception of the torpedo we fired at ourselves.”

Mike smirked. He knew new ships or ships that had as much work done to them as the Pegasus had would have a few bugs to be worked out. “Keep me updated on the progress. I want her ready when we get the green line on the Delta Quadrant mission.”

A few minutes later, Mike disembarked the Pegasus and was met at the air lock by his Yeoman who handed him a PADD. “Admiral, Loyalist Klingons led by Chancellor Martok have counter attacked the Opposition forces at all major Opposition facilities. Initial reports are saying a few Opposition Captains and even one Fleet Commander have stood down and are pledging loyalty to the Empire and Chancellor Martok saying they had been deceived, and joined the battle on the Loyalist side. Other reports say the Loyalists are gaining ground and retaking territory and facilities.”

Mike took the PADD and looked over it. Everything did look like a real victory could be in store for the Klingon Empire. The Klingon civil war looked to finally be winding down. “Thank you.” Mike said as he headed for the CiC to monitor the battle.

Elsewhere on Starbase 400, Vice Admiral K’Temoc was finally back on regular duty after final exams in Sick Bay at morning. He walked toward his new office on Level Seven. In his hand was a PADD that included the Luna’s mission to Nimbus III. K’Temoc was angry Mörderin had gotten away again. It was unacceptable the guy kept getting away with murder and attempted murder and infiltrating Starfleet installations. Starfleet had put a lot of time into the undercover operation to nab Mörderin on Nimbus III even before his last attack on Bremer and K’Temoc. He could only think Stonebridge messed up somewhere when he beamed down and was caught, costing him his life and the lives of the other undercover operatives. Something had to be done.

Once in his office, K’Temoc ordered a cold glass of cranberry juice from the food slot and took a seat. He looked over reports from the ships in Task Force 99. One from the Dreadnought concerned him and he sent a message to her commanding officer asking if assistance was needed.

K’Temoc typed in a few commands and Vic Fontaine’s last concert started to play on the speakers. Harry James’s Orchestra was the guest start and the song ‘It's Been A Long, Long Time’ came on. K’Temoc had a lot of reading to do to catch up on the Klingon civil war and ongoing events within the Federation.
