Mission:
Episode 92 - More Questions than Answers
Location: Cargobay 1
Timeline: MD1, 1000hrs
Shuttlebay 2-The following morning
The general atmosphere in the shuttlebay were somber for the large formation of Marines that stood there. In front of them, 10 transport containers draped with the Federation Flag were lined up behind a podium of which Jackson and a Master Sergeant stood. Normally, a Dignified Transfer, and a Memorial are two different event, but due to their distance from the main part of the Federation, it was better to combine the rituals.
Giaus stood in formation ahead of the MARSOC Marines who were not on mission right now.
Deborah was utterly silent, barely staying on her feet.. She gut was killing her.. She'd made it here,, If she could make it through without embarrassing the Marines. She planned to stay in sickbay under her ID number and maybe leave after she was healed.. She didn't know who to trust anymore...
T'Lyn stood their in the room, no emotion on her face. She glaced at Casion and raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. She was a marine and stood their quietly.
Patrick was a bit surprised to see 1Lt Fashion at the mutter, given her previous condition. He'd remain watchful of her.
Master Sergeant Gibbs calls the Marines to attention. The Division Colors are posted. Salutes are rendered. Then the formation was placed in Parade Rest. It is a ritual that existed for centuries in military organizations. Jackson stepped up to the podium. "Approximately 2400 years ago, another elite body of warriors had a saying, 'With this shield, or on it.' They were expected to either come back from battle victorious, or to be carried back home, lifeless, on their shields. Their society revered them, for they died defending their nation. Our Brothers and Sisters behind me made the ultimate sacrifice, defending the Federation from enemies both foreign, and domestic. As long as people like them live in our hearts, they have achieved immortality." Jackson stepped down, and saluted the fallen. "Master Sergeant Gibbs, conduct Roll Call." The Gibbs saluted, and replaced the General on the podium.
He called the formation to Attention. "At the sound of your name, you will respond with the word 'Present'.
"Major T'Lyn"
She stood at attention, "Present." She said as thought about what Jackson had said. But, she kept her feelings for the moment to herself. But, she was beginning to respect and admire the General even more so now then before.
"Captain McMichaels"
"Present" he replied with a salute-
"First Lieutenant Casion"
"Present.." She said horsely...
Staff Sergeant Hopper"
Hopper responded, "Present Master Sergeant!"
"Sergeant Deveraux"
Silence filled the cargo Bay.
"Sergeant Nigel Deveraux"
The silence continued. "Sergeant Nigel Deveraux, Deceased."
The process was repeated 9 more times. After a brief moment of silence, the marines were called to Attention, and told to Present Arms. Then as the formation continued to stand at attention and holding their salutes, the Honor Guard Body Carriers marched to the containers, and carried their fallen comrades into the transport one by one with military precision. What took minutes felt like hours. With the movement complete, Jackson gave Gibbs a nod.
"Dismissed!"
Shortly after dismissal, an message came over the intercom, ", Captain McMichaels, and Lieutenant Casion, report to the Division Commander's Office Immediately!"
'Oh No..??' Deb thought,, She had been heading back to sick bay.. She was barely holding on.. Would she fall in front of Alpha?? She'd been lying for two days... She was close to loosing Everything...
Patrick proceeded directly to General Jackson's office. "Reporting in as ordered, General" he said with a crisp salute.
