Mission: Episode 90 - The Great Relink
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD1, 1700 hours

Jack had not long gotten home, having just finished some time in the holosuite, relaxing after the recent Borg mission. He'd spent some time finishing of the latest chapter of the "Deathstalker" holonovel he enjoyed. It was helping him to wind down after recent events and find himself a clearer head on matters.

With the whole Toral matter now in hand and with Talia resting in Sickbay and the Essex now fully repaired after its run in with the Borg, he was starting to get a grip on matters and his life was beginning to feel like there was some normality being restored to it at long last. He knew from the day he graduated from Starfleet Academy that his life was never going to be easy or simple but having some normality helped to anchor matters

With a few hours before he was due on shift, Jack showered and put on a fresh uniform before heading to Sickbay to see how Talia was recovering. During the short scuffle in the Transporter Room of the Steadfast, she'd taking a phaser hit to the shoulder and her recovery was difficult whilst he was away on the Essex. However there were matters to be discussed before she was due to be returned to Earth

He arrived at Sickbay and headed over to the secure cubicle that she was being kept in. Jack nodded to the two security officers who allowed him access in. Talia was sat up in her bed, still wearing her recovery robe. She looked up and smiled as he entered.

"Hello Beloved, its good of you to visit," she said.

Jack noticed how much more recovered she looked since they were beamed into the area from the Steadfast so long ago. "Your looking better and more like yourself," he commented as he took a seat and sat down.

"Your medical staff tell me I'll be fully healed ib a few weeks. The Phaser burns have healed and the medication and exercises are helping my recovery... But I sense this isn't why your visiting me..." she answered.

"Theres a starship thats leaving for Earth in a few days. Your being moved from here to Starfleet Security's secure compound in New Zealand. Once there, you'll be tried, sentenced and moved to a secure prison cell to see out that sentence," he explained slowly. Looking up Jack almost had a sadness in his eyes. Talia took his hand in hers.

"Its ok Beloved. I am ready for this and to accept this. I have spoken with the JAG department regarding my case and requested to have a Life Sentence. I will not be opposing this in anyway... My time of running is finished and I need sime time to myself to settle my affairs and get things in order and this presents the perfect oppurtunity," she admitted to him. "I see the evidence and the confession I provided have been put to good effect..."

Jack squeezed her hand a little as he spoke. "Yes, they promoted me back to Lieutenant Commander and I've been assigned as Assistant Chief Engineer on base. I wanted to say thank you for what you've done, it means a lot to me," he explained to her. "I realise what you've decided and I understand your decision... I hold no malice against you Talia... I forgive you."

She looked him in the eye and smiled. "I know we spent many years together, but I realised once we met again that your heart belongs elsewhere now and I have to say, you have chosen well," she said carefully, watching Jack's expression as he caught on.

"I'm not in a relationship and I've not been looking for someone either... I don't understand..." He said to her.

"I saw it in your eyes when you were together on the planet and on the starship. In your face and and your movements. Your heart belongs to her and she knows it...your heart belongs to the Admiral."

Jack sat up from this revelation and he felt a small shock. From his time on the Wildcat to his time at the hands of the Borg to working for Starfleet Intelligence, one thing that he'd not been doing was looking for love but he began to wonder for a moment and realised what she meant. He sat back for a moment. "Deela?" He asked.

Talia nodded to him. "From today, I will no longer call you my Beloved because your heart now belongs to someone else and she is a lucky woman. You will however remain as my friend," she explained, "I will make sure that you are notified once I arrive on Earth. Now... Go, you have important matters to attend to..."

Jack stood up and leaned in to Talia to give her a small hug. "Take care my friend," he said as he stood up and made way out of the cubicle. He considered what she'd said Deela and for a moment he wondered again, but he dismissed the thought as something silly. However Jack was happy that she'd decided to find a calmer way of life and he considered this to be a positive parting of ways.
