Mission:
Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: T'Lar's quarters
Timeline: MD 2, 2355 hours
Deela was glad to be back. It was a difficult mission. There were lives lost and there was nothing she was able to do. Deela sat in her command chair. Most of the crew had left the docked ship except those who were going to do the repairs so it was just her. She closed her eyes as she listened to the sounds of the bridge. It used to be comforting but not this time.
Deela left the bridge and went straight to her quarters. When she walked in, Paul was asleep on the couch. She stood there for a moment, watching him sleep. Not wanting to wake him, she went into her room. On her bed, laid both of her kids soundly sleeping. She shook her head and and figured that she'd shower, change and join them.
She stuck her head under the stream of the water, the water running down her face. In her mind, was the thoughts of this mission. She couldn't get out of her head the fact that she lost some people. This wasn't the first time but for some reason, she was feeling...emotional, very emotional. Then she did something that was unusual for her, she broke down crying. Pulling herself together, she wrapped a towel around her and stepped out. She looked in the mirror to brush her teeth but hardly recognized herself with red swollen eyes.
Meditation, it always helped her before so she tried it but it didn't work. She couldn't clear her mind. She sat there for a few minutes more and was ready to get up off the floor when Paul stepped in. He was surprised to see Deela and was startled by her presence, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't hear you come in."
Deela stood up, "You were asleep so I didn't want to wake you." Deela tried not to look straight at him so he wouldn't see that she had a moment of weakness.
"Thanks. I hope you don't mind but the kids were having problems sleeping and Brandon asked if they could sleep in your bed. They really missed you."
Deela nodded, "I missed them too. If you would like to go back to your quarters, it is fine. Thank you so much for staying here with them."
Paul smiled, "Um, yeah, you're welcome. Anytime." He could see that something was bothering her but he didn't want to overstep his bounds, "Good night." He left.
Deela followed him to the door. After he left, she got a glass of wine and sat on the couch. It was very quiet, leaving her to her thoughts once again. She tried to sort out her feeling but it was difficult. She felt alone although she had the kids in the other room. She decided to invite someone to dinner, maybe Solomon. She shrugged, "Why not?" She left a message, "If you are not doing anything, would you like to meet for dinner? Let me know. Deela."
Deela soon joined her kids in bed. They both stirred when she slid in between the both of them. Brandon opened his eyes, "Mommy." She smiled as she embraced him, "Shh, go back to sleep. I love you kiddo." He went back to sleep. She sighed.
