Bryant tapped the console a few more times before he was satisfied with the readouts. Flying the Yorktown wasn't his idea of a fun time, in fact he considered it to be extremely boring, but that was flight in general to him. So much of it was automated that he found himself fighting to stay awake during his shift. He had, over the years, many pilots as friends that had tried to convince him that flying and being a pilot was the greatest thing ever, he didn't believe any of them. Convinced that the ship wasn't going to fly into a star or bounce to close to a supernova by some freak accident, he looked up at the Ensign that was hovering over his shoulder watching his every move with distinct dis tan.
" Very good Chief " the Ensign said while he looked over Bryant's shoulder, " you can get up now. "
Bryant stood up and stepped out of the conn/ops station that he was sitting at, allowing the young Ensign to move into the seat that he had just vacated. The Ensign, one of which Bryant didn't recognize and he guessed was just out of the Academy, sat down and tapped the conn's panel confirming what he already saw before when he was hoovering over Bryant's shoulder.
" Very good job Chief " the young Ensign said in a patronizing manner, " you're dismissing now Chief. "
" Aye SIR " Bryant replied very curtly before he turned on his heels and walked off the bridge.
Bryant was annoyed, no furious would be closer to the truth, of the total lack of respect that the Ensign had just displayed to him, merely because Bryant was a non-comm and he was an Ensign. Like that made any difference in Bryant's abilities to preform the task at hand. Heck, he was sure that he had more time in Starfleet than that Ensign had been alive. And to top it off, this wasn't the first time something like this had happened, in fact it was happening more and more often, or maybe he was just noticing it more often has he has gotten older.
Bryant continued to walk towards the mess hall, intent on getting some food before turning in for the night. He especially need a few moments to just calm down a bit. He walked intot he mess hall and saw that Capt. K'Temoc was eating dinner by himself, quickly grabbing a meal from the replicator Bryant headed over to the tablet that K'Temoc was sitting at.
" Do you mind if I join you Sir? " Bryant asked.
" Of course Master Chief, please have a seat " K'Temoc replied.
Bryant sat down heavy and almost slammed his meal down on the table as well, still visable upset from his encounter with the young Ensign. K'Temoc was obviously surprised by Bryant's actions.
" Well, something had ticked you off Master Chief. You want to talk about it? " K'Temoc asked.
" It's nothing Sir " Bryant replied, picking up his fork and shoving food into his mouth.
" Nothing, sure, right. " K'Temoc replied obviously unconvinced by Bryant's reply, " Let's have it Master Chief. "
Bryant sighed has he recounted his encounter with the young Ensign and waited for K'Temoc's reply.
