Sevlek stepped off of the turbolift and walked toward the conference room door, which was flanked by 2 fully geared Marines with an additional 2 on the opposite side of the corridor. As Sevlek neared, a Sergeant stepped from his post and said, "Apologies, Admiral. As your orders stated, sir, I must conduct a full scan of your person before allowing you to enter the conference room."
The Vulcan nodded, "Proceed."
The Marine nodded and activated his tricorder and began scanning Sevlek. After a few seconds, he said, "Thank you, Admiral. You're clear." He paused, "Sir, the Krazzle delegation almost came to blows with our team. I have 4 additional corpsman inside the conference room. They took the scan as a sign we considered them, at the very least, partially guilty of the explosion and attempt on Admiral Bremer's life."
"Thank you, Sergeant." Sevlek continued into the room where Colonel Andrenicus and several junior members of his own staff's cultural liaison section were already waiting.
As soon as he was in the room, Graline shot out of his seat, "What issss the meaning of thisss. We werrre trrreated assss if we arrre crrriminalss and resssponssible forrr the attack on Admirral Brrrremerrr'sss life?"
Andrenicus spoke, "Sir, I tried to explain to them that the presence of the Marines and scanning for admittance was a security precaution to prevent any harm coming to any other individual participating in these talks."
Sevlek looked from Andrenicus to Graline and in his typical emotionless voice said, "Colonel Andrenicus is correct. Starfleet personnel are required to submit to the security scan. It is a precaution, not an accusation."
Graline showed his canine's, just slightly. Sevlek had noticed that the Krazzle tended to do just that when they were agitated or anxious. "I do not think it issss necessssary. We arrrre honorrrable warrrriorrrsss and would not usssse ssssuch an attack durrrring peace talkssss." Several of the other delegation nodded their assent to Graline's statement.
"Indeed." Sevlek paused as he sat down. "I have just spoken to Crown Prince Yinsil concerning the details of the peace treaty. He spoke with King Keplinger and Foreign Minister Juralci. The C'hakilian government will not return any lost systems to the Krazzle Empire and they will not ask for any systems to be returned to them."
Graline was about to speak when Sevlek continued, cutting him off before he could start, "Therefore, the treaty will encompass a 10 year period of non-aggression, restricted borders and humanitarian aid for the C'hakilians currently under the governance of the Krazzle Empire. The C'hakilian government has also agreed to allow the Federation to provide humanitarian aid for the Krazzle under their governance."
Graline was visible irritated. The marines in each corner of the room had taken a more ready stance. Graline fumed as he stood and said nothing for nearly a full two minutes. He then turned his back on the Federation delegation to consult with his aides, in their native tongue. The universal translator was doing its job of translating the Krazzle's native language of varying hisses and guttural purring sounds and displaying it on the PADD in front of the Vulcan Admiral.
Sevlek watched as one aide said, "They [are] weak. We [can/should] [destroy/remove] this [possible vulgarity] for his [disrespect/insolence]."
Another said, "They [appear/seem] weak. We [can/should] not do as [you] say. It would [surely/certainly] mean [terrible] things for the Krazzle [population/people]."
Sevlek noticed Graline look at him for a few seconds then look back at his aides. The translator continued its work translating what the Krazzle Ra' said, "His [species/kind/clan] [are] skilled warriors. His [species/kind/clan] [are] physically stronger than we [are]. It would be [ignorance/foolish] to attempt his [destruction/removal]. We wil accept the [terms/word oath] of this [binding (treaty = secondary translation)] for now."
Sevlek pressed commands into the PADD to copy and store the translation of the full conversation and attach it to the transcript of the meeting.
Graline sat back down, "We will accccept thessse terrrmsss."
Sevlek nodded, "Very well." He handed a larger PADDs across the table and said, "That PADD contains the treaty and its terms. You may read it, if you wish, before signing. We will transmit a copy of the treaty to your ship when you depart."
Graline picked up the PADD and read it. After an additional 23.81 minutes, Graline pressed his right thumb to the PADD's input panel and then signed with the Stylus. "Therrrrre, we arrrre at peacccce with yourrr Federration." He stood, as did his staff, and motioned that he was ready to leave.
Sevlek and his staff stood, "The Marine detail will escort you to the transporter room, Ra' Graline." He looked at the corporal in the corner, "Inform the sergeant and see it done."
The Marine nodded and snapped off a clean and precise salute as they took up position to escort the Krazzle delegation.
After the Krazzle left the room, Andrenicus spoke with a chuckle, "Sir, shouldn't you have escorted them?"
"It is of the utmost importance to demonstrate to warrior races that you do not consider them superior to yourself. It was a calculated series of actions."
Andrenicus chuckled once more as the officers remaining left the room to return to their normal duties.
Sevlek looked at him, "Colonel, ensure the treaty is transmitted to all Starfleet outposts and starships on the border of Krazzle space in addition to sending it to Earth and the Krazzle flagship."
Andrenicus nodded and made noted in his PADD as he left the room.
