Mission:
Mission 87 - Disaster
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 0800hrs, Following 'Uneasy Meeting'
ON:
The rest of the day and night were quiet, maybe a little too quiet. Bremer had very little sleep, only two hours or so. He'd stayed up reviewing allied and Typhon Pact ship deployments, bases along the borders, intel reports, and Starfleet Command's over all defensive and offensive strategies to be used against the Krazzle and Typhon Pact as a whole, as well as the Federation Council's Peace Documents and they sent regarding the meeting with Graline.
It was about two hours before meetings were supposed to start, and Mike needed a mental break. He picked up a PADD, straightened his uniform, and left his Office. A few minutes later, he was in his Quarters, showering, while talking over a few things that troubled him with his wife. Even though Janice was officially retired from the Starfleet Marine Corps, she still had her security clearance, and the two talked and bounced ideas and possible situations off each other for little over half an hour.
After getting dressed, the Admiral kissed his wife and hugged his youngest son, grabbed his PADD and a mug of raktijno, and left the Quarters. However, instead of returning to Ops or the Briefing Lounge where the talks would take place, Bremer ended up on Holodeck 2 of the USS Pegasus.
As Mike walked in, he did a double take of his surroundings, he'd been so lost in thought he hadn't even realized he'd boarded the Pegasus or entered Holodeck 2 until the door closed behind him. The program was already active and Mike knew exactly what program it was.
Mike heard a band turning up and a few guys talking. After a moment the four men on stage all turned to look at Bremer, and one of them smiled and walked toward him.
"Hey, Pally! Haven't seen you around these parts in a long time! How you been?"
Mike stepped forward and shook the man's...hologram's hand. "Vic, good to see you again too."
This Vic Fontaine program, a direct copy of the one on DS9, had been running aboard the Pegasus-B for many years...since the months before the end of the Dominion War. While he had all the memories of his time aboard DS9 during the war, his experiences aboard the Pegasus-B had made him an unique individual.
"I don't get many visitors at 0855 hours, but you're welcome to hang around. I've got some guests in from Vegas that'll be opening a show tonight and hangin around for a few weeks, you wanna meet em?" Vic offered.
Mike nodded, maybe this was just the detachment his mind needed. As he walked forward, one of the men started to sing, "Volare, oh oh. Cantare, oh oh oh oh." After the lines, he stopped a minute and looked down at Vic, "Man, this microphone of yours sounds terrible."
One of the other men then chimed in with a smile, "I think it's just you Dino, you haven't had your breakfast drink yet."
The first man smiled back, "You might be right, where is that lousy bartender anyway?"
The last guy in the group then spoke up, "He's probably still in bed, he had him up til four in the morning ordering drinks."
"Well I never had Romulan Ale or Aldebaran Whiskey before so I had to try em out." He replied with a smile.
Vic then spoke up, "Frank, Dean, Sammy...let me introduce you to the big man around these parts. Admiral Mike K'Wor Bremer, this is Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr....collectively known as The Rat Pack. Joey Bishop should be hear later today, but he missed his flight." Vic turned to Bremer and whispered, "Had a little trouble with his personality matrix, but it should be fixed in a few hours."
Bremer smirked, a hologram that KNEW he was a hologram was now seemingly programming his own guests. "It's a real pleasure to meet you all, I have several of your songs in my personal database." Mike realized how much of a typical fan he sounded like and smirked again.
"You got time to stay for rehearsal?" Vic asked.
"Not this morning, we have some...guests of our own coming to the Station today and I have meetings starting at 1000 hours." Mike replied.
Vic nodded, "I gotcha, business is business...but that reminds me. You've been at the big ol' Starbase for years now...and my program is still stuck on the Pegasus. Now, I'm not knockin the Pegasus, this has been a great gig, but, if we could open out new show on the Station...well it would kinda be like old times ya know."
Mike thought for a moment, "I think we can make that happen. I'm going to send Commander Stark by to see you, he's the Commander of the Starbase 400's R&D, he should be able to set you up with a nice new location by show time tonight."
"Hey, that's great pally! Well, I know you have a meeting that's starting soon, and we need to rehears while we can." Vic replied, still smiling.
Mike nodded to the group, "I'll do my best to be there tonight...break a leg fellas."
With that, Mike turned and headed for Starbase 400's Ops, and mentally he felt rejuvenated.
