Personal History Aylek was born into a Romulan family on the planet Vulcan. His father was a warp field specialist that had to raise him singlehandedly as the mother passed in a shuttle accident a month after the child was born. His father, Kolek, was a man that grieved the loss of the woman he bonded with. Nevertheless, he raised the child with the strength and determination to preserve her memory. After Aylek reached the age of two, his father decided to move to Earth to pursue further education with warp cores in the hopes of being given the opportunity to help construct the new starships. During this, he left the child with a caring babysitter. This babysitter, a human woman named Jenny from where upstate New York used to be, gradually won Kolek over after he came home from work at night.
After two years of seeing each other, they decided to get married. A family to help raise the now four year old child was now here! The woman instilled values of respect and human empathy in the child as he grew and matured, the father learning as well from this though he drifted further away. The rather influential growing-up setting of Northeastern Pennsylvania made him more in tune to the conditions of swimming in freezing creeks and hiking, turning him into a sort of outdoorsman. The mother figure raised Aylek with little help from Kolek, a slowly-becoming absentee father. As Aylek grew, he was heavily influenced by human culture mostly because his father was always at work. He graduated high school at the age of eighteen and decided to explore his career options.
Throughout his life, he was inspired by his father to join Starfleet. Starfleet’s evacuation and aid of Romulan refugees made Satok’s father wish for his son to help repay this debt as the whole family would’ve died if the Federation hadn’t intervened. Satok agreed with this as he aspired to go to the stars as a young child and serve as some men and women in his community went off to Starfleet and encouraged him to as well. Satok decided that he would follow in his biological mother’s path as a weapons control officer on a starship, this was sealed by his countless hours of studying before the entrance exam to the academy.
During his first and most eventful academy year, he made few friends or connections. He joined the chess club and excelled there, even coming in near the top of the group with their internal competitions. He had loads of fun and gained a bit of practical experience as the head of a group near the end of the year, but he dropped the club shortly after to focus more on his studies. After that, things went relatively smoothly throughout his academy years. He made a friend or two and had an overall good amount of fun during his off time, even joining the basketball group to play some games. His grades were relatively average coming into his final year. He graduated in the top 25% of his class, doing quite well.
After his graduation, he took his first posting aboard the USS Odyssey. On the Odyssey, he worked as a tactical officer for a grand total of 3 years, learning the ropes of hard work and valor to impress his superiors. He did very well and moved on to his next posting at the age of 25...
His next posting was a starbase on the outer reaches of the Federation. He worked with many different species and learned about great diversity, though he mostly stayed with the humans for familiarity's sake. He performed very well here, moving on to his next posting at 30, Starbase 400.
