Personality & Traits
General Overview | Jason Vanderson is the man the Starfleet Marine Corps molded him to be. First and foremost, the gunnery sergeant is a thinking man. His mind is constantly challenged through training and study. Physical exhaustion and muscle failure test his body on a regular basis. A sense of resiliency makes the marine mentally and emotionally flexible. He has to be, to face dangerous risks under austere conditions and in extreme pressure. Staying balanced despite all of this may be his best asset. His ability to stay positive is like a gift. Losing several people close to him leaves him with a sense of disconnect between others. Jason fights to at least maintain positive working relationships and be positive. He believes in leading by example. This often leads to increased stress levels. Tough environmental training gives the marine an excuse to meditate. Ruminating on his thoughts while on the brink of exhaustion can provide the marine with revolutionary thoughts. Life is about constant preparation. His team must prepare to support the most sensitive operations of a Marine Expeditionary Force. Vanderson and his team would do things many would think were impossible. One of his biggest goals is preserving his well maintaining sense of balance. Every mission seems to bring new challenges. Vanderson’s stiff upper lip and trademark smirk portray a stoic attitude of adaptability. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | Vanderson can take on too much responsibility. His confidence in his ability also leads to unnecessary risk taking. Vanderson would rather accomplish an assignment quickly then spend extra time. Patience is not his strong suit. A strict career in the SFMC gave him the skills to kick himself into gear. His tendency to rush can cause problems with more patient people. His sense of disconnection causes increased discomfort in social settings. Intrusive memories of missions past distract him, forcing focus to be fought for. Vanderson finds himself fighting thoughts of his personal life and desires. He can’t visualize room for a family life with the massive responsibility of his assignment. Resilience and flexibility are his greatest gifts. His body and mind and strong, with Jason fighting constantly to improve himself. He’s bright enough to learn and retain knowledge from disciplines ranging from Ops & Science to Tactical. Growing up on a high gravity world helped the large-framed Jason become naturally strong. |

Ambitions | The truth is Jay only dreams of a day when he can retire. His plan is to acquire a ship after retirement, and sail the Alpha Quadrant. He wants to live a life based around peace and exploration. His wish is to have enough time to build friendships. Overcoming his resistance to connect on deeper levels to others is another of his goals. Jason loves his career. Little is known of the work of Raiders like MSgt Vanderson across the Federation. He dreads thoughts of officer ’s life. There is a lot he must learn in order to live up to the job’s expectations. His biggest ambition is to be the best version of himself. His goal of wanting to be more laid back keeps him from taking himself too seriously. It helps him stay balanced and realistic. |

Hobbies & Interests | Jason has a hard time relaxing enough to enjoy many hobbies. He has to admit that he loves to travel. Holodeck simulations which provide new scenarios stimulate his curious mind and need for adventure. Jason loves a good laugh. He enjoys finding people he can share a good laugh or tell a story with. Sports are some of MSgt Vanderson’s favorite social activities. They allow him to interact quietly and focus on the game. There’s something relaxing about the jocularity and competition. It provides him with a release. Wrestling and ancient grappling martial arts are one form of this. Aspects of judo and jiu-jitsu form the basis of this. Alien music is inescapably fascinating in Vanderson’s ear. Hearing music from a new world tingles his senses. His goal is to hear songs from hundreds of worlds. Such an ambitious goal is far from being reached, with him actually listening to music from closer to fifty civilizations. |

Personal History | Jason Vanderson was born in the summer of 2359. He came from a large extended family. Jason was raised alongside a twin brother and younger sister. His father made a name for himself, earning an assignment to a research facility on planet Alpha Centauri B II. His mother was an independent scientist working nearby. The planet’s high gravity helped Jason grow deceptively strong naturally. He was always active, loving to play sports and explore the outdoors. Jason never had much patience for the sciences. He was bright, but Academics never held his attention. A few poor grades kept him from acceptance to Starfleet Academy. He was still determined to see the Galaxy. Growing up on the hearty colony world also known as New Montana formed Jason into a hearty individual. Early success in the SFMC placed Vanderson on the fast track to success. Motivation which he’d never found in the classroom now pushed him to learn faster than ever. Superior officers noticed his positive attitude and success. Although he lacked discipline at first, he showed potential. He’s since visited four starbases, eight starships, dozens of shuttles and nine planets. Jason looks forward to the next adventure. Life is far from a pleasure cruise. MSgt Vanderson is the senior non-commissioned officer of a 1st MARSOC Group Team. The unit maintains the highest standards of character and duty requirements. Each soldier is expected to be an example among examples of the epitome of the Corps. Every individual is flawed. Demands are excruciating. Vanderson’s role is to ensure the well oiled machine runs as well as it can. |
