Personality & Traits
General Overview | Vashir is very serious and focused when on duty. She is very studious and worked hard at the Academy. Starfleet was a dream of hers since she was very young, and takes the platitudes of Starfleet and the Federation very seriously. She became a widow at age 25. Because of her loss at a young age, off-duty Vashir spends a lot of time making sure her friends know how much they mean to her, gifting them presents from her family's alcohol industry, or crafts she's made with personal messages. She makes a point to try to be inclusive, and doesn't tie herself down to one specific friend group. She hates feeling left out herself, and so she's sensitive to noticing when others might feel the same way. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | She's senstive about Orion sterotypes, and overcompensates with her studiousness and focus on work. She is very formal around superior officers, and while she wants to be more friendly with her superiors, struggles with how to balance formality with familiarity. She's very comfortable and jovial with her equals and lesser ranked officers and civilians. Vashir is able to project confidence, even when she's feeling self-conscious. She thinks well on her feet, and is good at improvising and coming up with alternate solutions to problems. She's able to hyper focus on important tasks when she needs to, which makes her a very efficient worker most of the time. However, if an assignment doesn't interest her, or if she thinks it's menial, she can have a tendency to procrastinate and get side-tracked. |
|
Ambitions | Vashir may want to be a Captain someday. She definitely wants to be a Chief Science Officer on a Starfleet science vessel. She also hopes to have a project worth of the Graf award someday, hopefully in the field of Temporal Mechanics. She's very interested in trying to solve the many paradoxical questions of time travel and causality effects.
Hobbies & Interests | Karaoke, pottery, painting, hanging out with friends. Vashir is actually a very gifted singer and was a member the female A Cappella group at Starfleet Academy her Sophomore-Senior years. She's very proud of this, and enjoys being the center of attention, but isn't like to admit that.
Languages | Orion, Federation Standard, some Ferengi |
Personal History | Vashir's family have been major producers of wine and ale for the Orion free market for many generations, owning farming land and vineyards on Orion, and several other worlds. Her family has an unfortunate history of using slave labor, but her great-grandparents worked to end that practice, transitioning the business to more humane employment practives. Unfortunately, like most Orion businesses, they do struggle with the Syndicate's power and influence, and have had unfortunate run-ins with them in the past. Vashir grew up on Orion, but was fortunate to travel to many worlds growing up. She was 7 when her parents took her and her sister to Earth while they were there on business. Ever since, it became Vashir's dream to attend Starfleet Academy. Her parents and sister were and are largely supportive of her career choice. However some of her extended family believes she should have stayed in the family business. At the Academy, Vashir met and fell in love with a human male, Joshua Shelton. They married after graduation. Josh was a Starfleet pilot, and was killed on duty less than three years after their wedding date. Since his death, Vashir tries to not take life for granted and seizes every opportunity to tell people she loves them, work for advancement in her career, and use her leave time for adventurous vacations. She's hesitant to get into a relationship again, not wanting to have to experience that kind of pain and grief a second time. |

Service Record | Graduated Starfleet 2392, She majored in Science, with a focus on astrometrics and temporal mechanics. Immediately after graduation, Vashir and her husband were both assigned to the USS Hood. Vashir was was considered an up and coming star by the chief science officer because of her work ethic and knack for solving problems. A After her husband died Vashir put in for a transfer and served serving on the USS Merrimac from mid 2395 until her transfer to SB 400. Vashir's service record is spotless, and she's earned several commendations over the years. She sees the position opening at SB 400 as an opportunity to advance her career, as it involves more leadership responsibilities than she's had in her past positions. |
